Ignis

Ignis is the Imperial Legion’s master armorer, an accomplished smith whose work repairs and improves Eryk’s equipment. After the political crisis, she returns to Gramney and begins establishing a smithy, where Eryk becomes her business partner. (Chapters 189–209, 264–269)

Biography

The Legion’s master armorer

Ignis is introduced by Zyna as the Imperial Legion’s best armorer, an older woman whose skill is underappreciated by many legionnaires. Eryk meets her when she brings his armor and weapons, and her blunt manner quickly establishes a professional relationship built around craft rather than ceremony. She later cleans and sharpens elven blades, repairs Eryk’s resin-hide armor, and restores it so thoroughly that the damage is hidden from the outside. (Chapters 189, 193, 196–209)

Ignis’s work becomes part of Eryk’s preparation for dangerous assignments. Her repairs restore protection after his armor is damaged in combat, and he relies on her skill rather than asking the company’s usual smith to make the repairs. She also supplies equipment to the Legion, a fact that later becomes relevant when forged armor is used in a plot against the Empire. (Chapters 198, 203–209, 267)

Rebuilding in Gramney

After Eryk returns to Gramney, he finds Ignis arguing with a local smith who has barred her from his forge. She is thinner and dressed poorly, but still confident in her skill. Eryk helps her investigate what happened to Zyna, and Ignis shares information about a suspected conspirator’s arrest. (Chapters 264–266)

Ignis gathers weapons and earrings to make an offer on the smithy. Eryk later learns that he owns half of the business, giving her a partner as she starts again. The arrangement reflects his trust in her work and his effort to leave practical support for people in Gramney even as he prepares to travel onward. (Chapters 268–269)

Appearance and personality

Ignis is an older, gray-haired woman. When Eryk meets her again in Gramney, she is notably thinner, wears dirty, baggy clothes, and has a chipped front tooth. She is direct, proud of her craft, and willing to challenge a smith who dismisses her expertise. (Chapters 189, 193, 264–265)

Magic and abilities

Ignis is an expert armorer and smith. She repairs resin-hide armor, restores weapons, and cleans and sharpens blades. The narrative does not establish personal spellcasting or a numeric score for her. (Chapters 193, 196–209, 264–268)
