Song Junwan

Song Junwan is a Song Clan leader who rises from grand elder of Middle Peak to battlefield commander, partner of Bai Xiaochun, mother of Bai Xiaoxiao, and one of the officials entrusted with the Arch-Emperor Dynasty in its emperor's absence.

Biography

Grand Elder of Middle Peak

Song Junwan first stands at the center of Middle Peak's leadership as its grand elder, supervising elders, controlling the peak's defenses, and judging cultivators who seek a second chance at Foundation Establishment. When the disguised Bai Xiaochun distinguishes himself as Nightcrypt, she recruits him to Middle Peak and protects him against both institutional jealousy and Xuemei's hostility. Her flirtatious treatment of him is paired with hard authority: after publicly shielding him, she can silence the same disciples who fear and resent his sudden rise. (Chapters 192–209)

Her confidence in Nightcrypt grows because he repeatedly displays value to Middle Peak, but she does not entrust him merely on impulse. She investigates his background, tests his reactions, guards him while he studies the Holy Pill Wall Fragment, and intervenes when other peaks try to claim or punish him. She also confides the Blood Stream Sect's strategic dilemma: war appears unavoidable, yet destroying the Spirit Stream Sect would cost the strength needed to challenge the Sky River Court. The disclosure makes him a confidant in matters normally reserved for senior leadership and reveals that her ambition is tied to the sect's survival, not only personal rank. (Chapters 210–238)

With Song Que no longer able to contest Xuemei for the position of Middle Peak blood master, Song Junwan accepts the burden herself. She secures formidable Dharma protectors, promises to honor the commitments that brought them to her side, and personally fights Xuemei while they hunt the keys that determine the succession. Although wounded and eventually sealed away from the final chamber, she makes a decisive sacrifice rather than allow Xuemei to win: she throws her Blood Master Command Medallion to Nightcrypt and orders him to take the title. The choice costs Song Junwan her own bid but preserves her faction's chance through the person she has chosen to trust. (Chapters 231–258)

Nightcrypt's victory leaves Song Junwan with mixed feelings, yet she accepts the result, formally presents him with the blood-master robe, and warns him before his confrontation with the Song Clan patriarch. That loyalty is tested when he vanishes and later reveals that Nightcrypt and Bai Xiaochun are the same person. Song Junwan initially joins the Blood Stream Sect's furious advance, but her grief prevents her from attacking after the revelation. Bai Xiaochun's refusal to choose one sect over the other, and his explanation that he acted to stop their mutual destruction, restores some of the warmth in her gaze even though his deception and rapidly expanding stature leave her feeling that the distance between them has grown. Duty in the River-Defying Sect

After the Blood and Spirit Stream Sects unite, Song Junwan carries her Middle Peak responsibilities into the River-Defying Sect. She helps awaken the Blood Ancestor, fights during the new sect's campaign, and directs disciples rebuilding Middle Peak in its new home. Her feelings for Bai Xiaochun remain entangled with mistrust and rivalry: she and Hou Xiaomei compete for his attention, but both also tend him when he is hurt and share the sadness of his departure for the Starry Sky Dao Polarity Sect. Song Junwan therefore ends this phase not as a discarded leader of a vanished sect, but as an active administrator of its successor and a partner left behind by Bai Xiaochun's wider path. By then at the great circle of Core Formation, Song Junwan fights while badly wounded, refuses treatment until Xuemei is cared for, and helps save retreating disciples rather than preserve herself. She and the remaining Blood Stream leaders keep Middle Peak's blood sword intact while five Nascent Soul enemies close in. Bai Xiaochun's return prevents their destruction, but the sight of his overwhelming power revives her fear that his progress will carry him beyond her reach. Song Junwan initially puts Middle Peak's urgent affairs ahead of the private reunion she wants. Once alone with Bai Xiaochun, however, she learns that he risked himself to rescue Song Que and recognizes the act as one performed partly for her sake. Faced with the prospect that another separation could reduce their bond to a memory, she chooses to stop concealing what she wants and begins an intimate relationship with him. Bai Xiaochun later gives her a deva soul intended to aid her future attempt to form a nascent soul; she accepts the extraordinary gift without trying to hold him back when duty again calls him away. Collapse, Dispersal, and Captivity

Song Junwan remains with the River-Defying Sect through its later crises and the destruction of the Heavenspan Realm. After the survivors are scattered across the Eternal Immortal Domains, she is separated from Bai Xiaochun while carrying his child. Bruiser finds the unfamiliar aura within her, understands that it is connected to Bai Xiaochun, and commits himself to protecting them. Song Junwan chooses the reachable safety offered by Patriarch Spirit Stream and Li Qinghou rather than attempting the impractical journey to distant Saint-Emperor City, and news of Bai Xiaochun's survival and advancement becomes a source of hope while she helps rejoin the displaced community. Her attempt to reach Bai Xiaochun near Vile-Emperor City turns into another separation when the Vile-Prince captures her and Zhou Zimo. He imprisons them in a formation designed to extract their blood and the vital essence of their unborn children. Song Junwan cannot break free, but Bruiser's transformation into a protective totem on her arm creates a shield that holds off the extraction for days. Song Que then attacks the mansion to defend his aunt and her child, suffering mortal wounds to interrupt the process until Bai Xiaochun arrives and moves both women to the safety of the damaged fan. Recovery takes a long period in the fan's Daoist Tower of Life and Death. When Song Junwan awakens, her anger reflects the accumulated hardship of pregnancy, captivity, and Bai Xiaochun's absence rather than a simple misunderstanding; only after he explains what happened does it gradually subside. Learning what Bruiser and Song Que sacrificed for her brings her to tears. She asks whether her nephew will wake again, then accepts Bai Xiaochun's plan to return and confront the Eternal Immortal Domains' political danger, concealing her own anxiety so that she will not add to the pressure already forcing his decision. Family and the Arch-Emperor Dynasty

Once reunited in the new Arch-Emperor Dynasty, Song Junwan is treated with exceptional care as her due date approaches, but she retains both her temper and her independent voice. She takes her place among Bai Xiaochun's closest family during the dynasty's founding and gives birth to their daughter, Bai Xiaoxiao. Her response to Bai Xiaochun's exuberance combines maternal warmth with familiar discipline: she lets him share the joy, then sends him to fulfill his responsibilities toward Zhou Zimo as well. During the following two years she helps raise the children and, aided by the dynasty's abundant resources, advances to the Deva Realm. (Chapters 1210–1223)

Motherhood does not remove Song Junwan from public responsibility. When Bai Xiaochun is away, she joins Zhou Zimo, Hou Xiaomei, the Grand Heavenmaster, the Giant Ghost King, Li Qinghou, and Gongsun Wan'er in handling affairs of state. When the Mortal Renegade threatens to erase the Eternal Immortal Domains, she also rejects evacuation to the treasured fan. Her reasoning is deliberately practical: a refuge that merely delays extermination is not a meaningful escape. The decision leaves her and the family exposed to the final conflict, but it also affirms that their fate is bound to the people and world Bai Xiaochun is fighting to save. During Bai Xiaochun's final preparations, Song Junwan returns with him to the reconstructed Middle Peak and spends the uncertain remaining days with their family. She survives the Mortal Renegade's defeat and continues to be one of the warm voices anchoring Bai Xiaochun as he restores life throughout the starry sky. The epilogue records that he takes his family and friends away to live happily; it also preserves Song Junwan's familiar severity, shared with his other partners, as part of the settled family life that follows their long separations. Appearance and personality

Song Junwan is repeatedly described as curvaceous and strikingly beautiful, with pale skin, crimson lips, willow-like eyebrows, deep glittering eyes, and a delicate fragrance. At Middle Peak she favors revealing, provocative clothing and deliberately uses her appearance to unsettle or charm others; on campaign she instead wears battle garb and presents a cold, elegant bearing. These are direct narrative observations, while descriptions of her as a “vixen” usually reflect Bai Xiaochun's anxious perspective rather than a neutral classification. Her public manner combines teasing warmth with a temper sharp enough to intimidate Middle Peak, including her own nephew. Beneath that volatility, her decisions show loyalty, strategic awareness, and a strong sense of duty: she protects subordinates, keeps working when she would prefer a private reunion, prioritizes injured allies, and continues leading after serious wounds. In intimate relationships she is jealous and exacting, but she is also capable of direct commitment, tenderness, and restraint when someone she loves must leave. Song Junwan is a Blood Stream cultivator whose demonstrated strengths are a large cultivation reserve, control over Middle Peak's institutions and formations, and skilled use of its blood sword.
