Seo Ran

Seo Ran refers to two distinct people whose connection is commemorative rather than a single uninterrupted identity. The elder Seo Ran is a Sea Dragon guardian, companion of Seo Eun-hyun, and parent of the second-generation Candle Dragons. The younger Seo Ran is the daughter of Seo Eun-hyun and Kim Yeon, named partly for the old friend her parents missed. She is not the elder reborn, and Kang Min-hee is her beloved guardian—not her identity or biological mother.

The elder Seo Ran is also not simply Yeon Jin or Seo Hweol. He inhabits Yeon Jin's body during part of his history, and later learns that Seo Hweol inserted a main-body configuration into the soul intended to become him. His memories, relationships, parenthood, and chosen sacrifice nevertheless establish Seo Ran as the person acting through that compromised origin.

Biography

The elder guardian of Utmost Chaos Island

The elder Seo Ran begins as a late-Qi-Building Sea Dragon living near Utmost Chaos Island, where local people honor him as a protective spirit. He is cautious with outsiders because the Black Wind Sea and the island's mysteries make misplaced trust lethal. Seo earns an opening through a token connected to Seo Hweol, then proves more than the token by learning the demon script, sharing danger, and accepting the Dragon Transformation knowledge Seo Ran preserves. (Chapters 61–68)

Seo Ran travels with Seo through the Black Wind Sea and fights the forces surrounding the Nether Crossing Ship. His dragon body, horn-light, and breath make him a formidable guardian, but size and cultivation do not protect him from spatial catastrophe or superior powers. His sacrifice during the disaster matters beyond tactical loss: the person who dies belongs to that cycle and cannot be dismissed as a disposable rehearsal merely because Seo may later regress. In later cycles, Seo rebuilds trust rather than assuming a remembered friendship grants ownership. Seo Ran works with Song Jin and Seo, investigates the Serving Command Palace, decrypts formations, and prepares barrier-breaking tools for the confrontation with Yuan Li. Reaching mid Core Formation allows him to weaken blood storms and survive conflicts that killed him before. The isolated island guardian becomes an active member of a cross-race alliance whose loyalty is chosen anew. (Chapters 83–129)

The elder's family, origin, and sacrifice

The elder Seo Ran later rejoins Seo's companions in the Ancient Force Realm. He carries his bond with Song Jin as parent and teacher, mourns that loss, helps navigate sea domains, and suffers capture by Great Mountain with the rest of the group. These experiences deepen his fear that higher powers can rewrite connection and identity, but he continues to treat Buk Hyang-hwa, Seo, and the traveling community as family rather than temporary roles. (Chapters 356–404)

The revelation of his origin attacks that choice directly. Seo Hweol tells him that a main-body configuration was inserted into the soul intended to become Seo Ran, displacing the person who should have been born. Seo Ran also occupies Yeon Jin's body during parts of this history. Neither fact makes Yeon Jin, Seo Hweol, and Seo Ran one interchangeable consciousness. He experiences the revelation as a crisis precisely because a person with his own memories and attachments now has to decide whether configuration determines selfhood. (Chapters 506–509)

Parenthood provides his answer. The Candle Dragon children recognize him as their parent, and he raises Seo Hye and her siblings while allowing their unusual references to his gender without letting those labels erase his care. When Seo Hweol's plan closes around them, Seo Ran chooses self-sacrifice to expose the memories inside the configuration. He enters Tainted Soul Filling the Heavens believing that the love given by family and companions makes him Seo Ran even if Seo Hweol consumes the body. (Chapters 509–524)

The younger Seo Ran and Spring Dream

The younger Seo Ran is born much later to Seo Eun-hyun and Kim Yeon. Her parents choose the name both for a flower meaningful to them and for the elder friend they miss, but she is a new daughter with her own body, soul, and fate. Her deeper origin joins the split souls Su In and Hong Yeon associated with Vast Cold; this connection likewise does not turn her into the elder Sea Dragon whose name she carries. (Chapter 703)

Growing up in the Hyun Kingdom, she can perceive the flows commonly called fate. Overprotective parents cannot make that perception emotionally simple, and she resists being treated as a fragile answer to their past losses. Her chosen mortal life includes boredom, rebellion, addiction, care, and a final decision to act. Kang Min-hee stays beside her as a mother-like guardian, friend, and senior, while Kim Yeon remains her biological mother and Seo Eun-hyun her biological father. (Chapters 704–712)

During Spring Dream, the younger Seo Ran turns the Hyun Style Fighting Method into a firearm-based Shooting Method and uses ghost, heat, and explosive force to protect civilians. She follows the ending she has foreseen without treating fate as an excuse for passivity. Even when ammunition runs out, she continues drawing on internal power and the affection learned from Kim Yeon's Full Blossom, choosing what her final actions mean inside a life whose endpoint she cannot simply cancel. Her mortal life ends, but the farewell is not possession or annihilation. Kang Min-hee protects the dream while allowing Seo Ran's soul and fate to pass into a pale-pink Vast Cold space, awakening as Lapis Lazuli Flower Heavenly King through grief and acceptance. Seo Ran answers her parents and guardian with hope of another meeting. The later battle can call upon the history of her final stand, yet that use honors a completed person rather than converting her into Kang Min-hee's identity or permanent dependent. Appearance and personality

The elder Seo Ran is a giant Sea Dragon roughly ten feet in size. His horn shines jade, his breath becomes a blue torrent, and his large body carries both the power and escape limitations of his lineage. In human or half-human contexts he is treated as a gentle young man whose attachment to family contrasts with Seo Hweol's calculated smile. He is cautious, loyal after trust is earned, and protective without being naturally submissive. (Chapters 63, 68–73, 506–512)

The younger Seo Ran is a mortal girl whose early life moves from an overprotected adolescent to an armed young woman facing the endpoint she perceives. She is independent, sulky with intrusive parents, perceptive of fate, and determined not to let loved ones decide every risk for her. Her final composure does not make her life painless; it shows that boredom, hurt, affection, and rebellion can all belong to the same person without reducing her to a prophecy. (Chapters 703–714)

Abilities and cultivation

The two Seo Rans use different systems. The elder follows Sea Dragon and immortal cultivation through a dragon body, Demon Core, breath, blood-weather interaction, and formation work. The younger is a mortal martial artist with fate perception, firearms, and a Shooting Method derived from Hyun Style Fighting. The elder's formal progression table must not be read as the younger woman's cultivation history. (Chapters 61–129, 404, 703–716)

Elder Sea Dragon body, breath, and formations

The elder's innate Sea Dragon lineage produces a large flying body, jade horn-light, demonic power, storm resistance, and blue breath attacks. His Demon Core and dragon methods let him interact with weather and blood currents, while knowledge of demon script supports Dragon Transformation and barrier analysis. These abilities serve travel, teaching, defense, and large-scale combat rather than one narrow attack technique. (Chapters 63–73, 83–129)

Large size is a practical weakness in confined or collapsing space, and spatial storms or superior Nascent Soul power can overwhelm him. His later mid-Core-Formation cultivation strengthens blood-current control enough to weaken Yuan Li's storm, but it does not remove the rank gap. The latest confirmed formal state of the elder is Nascent Soul, revealed when Great Mountain extracts that soul during the group's capture. (Chapters 115–129, 404)

Elder configuration and identity continuity

The elder can act through Yeon Jin's body and carries a Seo Hweol-linked main-body configuration. That structure provides access to cultivation history and makes him a carrier of memories Seo Hweol wants to control. It is also exploitable: other beings can target the body, soul, or implanted pattern and claim that the configuration proves the person is only a copy or monster. (Chapters 404, 506–524)

Configuration does not mechanically settle personal identity. Seo Ran's heart, relationships, and chosen parenthood produce an Immortal-Art-level will strong enough to resist reduction to Seo Hweol's plan. His final use of the connection is self-sacrificial: by letting the configuration expose its memories, he gives Seo Eun-hyun a way to confront Seo Hweol. The effect kills or consumes the acting self rather than granting safe control over the network. (Chapters 509–524)

Younger fate perception and Hyun Style Shooting

The younger Seo Ran perceives the “flow” governing surrounding lives and can often foresee how events will conclude. This is not omnipotent control. Knowing a path can produce boredom, despair, or the temptation to treat action as meaningless, while exceptional relationships can behave in ways she did not predict. Kang Min-hee remaining beside her becomes evidence that another person's love and choice still matter even within an apparently absolute flow. (Chapters 704–712)

She adapts Hyun Style Fighting into a Shooting Method that channels internal energy through pistols. Different rounds and forms carry ghostly, heat, explosive, or rippling force, letting her intercept artillery and protect civilians at range. Firearms still run out of ammunition, her mortal body has finite reserves, and the technique cannot simply erase her destined endpoint. Its mature significance lies in choosing action and connection despite those limits. (Chapters 712–715)

• Seo Eun-hyun: The elder Seo Ran becomes Seo's student, ally, and family through trust rebuilt across cycles; the younger is Seo's biological daughter. • Kim Yeon: Biological mother of the younger Seo Ran. Kim's Full Blossom and embrace shape her daughter's understanding of affection, while no equivalent maternity applies to the elder Sea Dragon. (Chapters 703–716)
