Hon Won — A Regressor's Tale of Cultivation

Hon Won is an Integration-stage Grand Cultivator who serves as Palace Lord of both Heaven-Earth Palace and Penglai Palace in A Regressor’s Tale of Cultivation. His immense Great Mountain Splitting Emperor Technique and institutional authority make him one of Seo Eun-hyun’s most dangerous early Middle Realm pursuers. That violence grows from a history twisted around Yeon Wei: her ancient curse knots his Taiji circulation, while Great Mountain’s arrangement turns separated lovers into enemies. When Seo breaks the assigned calamity, Hon Won recovers his memories and spends everything to reach Yeon Wei before they die together.

Biography

Palace Lord and relentless pursuer

Hon Won first appears directly through a water-mirror audience arranged by his daughter Hon Wei. As guardian of Heaven-Earth Palace and head of Penglai Palace, he can legitimize a restored Golden Divine Heavenly Thunder Sect and command a large network of descendants and law enforcers. The negotiation collapses when his spiritual eye recognizes Yeon Wei inside Yeon Jin. Rage replaces diplomacy, and he orders Penglai Palace to reject the new sect and hunt everyone connected to her. (Chapters 239, 252–253)

His fury follows Seo into later cycles. Hon Won uses bounties, palace inspectors, spatial gates, and the Heaven-Earth Palace domain to pursue a cultivator he believes has colluded with the ancient betrayer. In direct combat, he folds space, crosses the central territory with Flying Escape, imprisons Yin and Yang and the Five Elements, and obliterates the region with Great Mountain Splitting Emperor. Seo survives one exchange only through exceptional bodily and martial methods, then learns that escaping the palace boundary does not immediately end Hon Won’s reach. (Chapters 278–285, 327–332)

The pursuit is constrained by an injury Hon Won does not initially remember in full. Yeon Wei sacrificed cultivation to twist his Taiji energy forty thousand years earlier, reducing his accessible power and making Heaven-Earth Palace’s special energy necessary to keep the circulation from collapsing. He can temporarily wear his domain and leave, but distance causes the knot to worsen and blood to spill. The limitation explains his territorial fixation without making the Palace Lord weak inside the environment that sustains him. (Chapters 245, 278–285, 327–332)

Captivity, restored memory, and one final choice

Hon Won becomes entangled with Seo Hweol’s rebellion and the fate Great Mountain imposed upon both him and Yeon Wei. Seo manifests their prior misery through Yeon’s Play and the Canvas of Myriad Forms and Connections, then rewrites the calamity as already fulfilled through the Phenomena Extinguishing Mantra. The contradiction severs the prophecy’s immediate hold. Hon Won regains his forgotten memories, untwisted spiritual veins, cultivation, and pride, but the restoration brings tears rather than uncomplicated triumph because he finally understands the life built upon their separation. He immediately turns the recovered Great Mountain Splitting Emperor Technique against Oh Hye-seo, whose capture threatens the remaining escapees. Resonating with Seo’s universal mantra, Hon Won’s blow reaches quasi-Star-Shattering weight and tears apart her defenses, but the single attack consumes all his cultivation and true origin. He then ignores the opportunity to preserve himself, returns to the burning palace, and uses Sunshine of Various Omens to extend Yeon Wei’s life by a few moments. (Chapter 532)

Hon Won admits that Cheon Ra, the beloved whose loss defined his obsession, was Yeon Wei herself. He spends the life and soul force that could support resurrection solely on her, protects her from the collapsing palace, and asks only to see her smile before they depart together. Yeon Wei accepts the reconciliation without denying his cruelty or her resentment. They burn to ashes holding hands, and later revelations confirm Hon Won’s death; the continuation of his technique or Immortal Title through others does not restore him. (Chapters 532, 537, 562)

Appearance and personality

Hon Won appears as a middle-aged man with hair bound in a topknot and a purple robe. His spiritual eyes burn fiercely and form black-and-white Taiji symbols, later displaying characters that reflect their current inspection function. In battle, Good-Devil energy gathers in his hands and his domain can shrink until it fits his body like clothing, turning a formal palace guardian into a close-range force capable of folding dimensions with each strike. He is stern, suspicious, proud, institutional, and relentless once he identifies a traitor. His devotion to duty can become negligence elsewhere: remaining centered on Heaven-Earth Palace leaves other disasters unanswered, while obsession with Yeon Wei turns whole organizations against Seo. Recovered memory exposes love, regret, and tenderness beneath that severity. His final choice is not strategic governance but total sacrifice for a person he harmed and lost, made without expecting survival or absolution. (Chapters 239–253, 278–332, 523–532)

Abilities and cultivation

Great Mountain Splitting Emperor Technique

Hon Won’s innate Great Mountain Splitting Emperor Technique commands Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, spatial force, and Great Mountain weight. He forms a prison encompassing fundamental energies, assimilates targets into its structure, distorts dimensions with physical strikes, and releases an Emperor Splitting blow capable of erasing the Heaven-Earth central territory. At restored peak resonance, the technique shreds Oh Hye-seo’s Immortal Beast defenses and tears apart her Integrated Dao Domain with quasi-Star-Shattering force. (Chapters 253, 327–332, 532)

The method is immensely forceful but not automatically fast or sustainable. Seo can read openings and evade ordinary applications, while Yeon Wei’s Taiji curse tangles its circulation and makes Hon Won dependent on palace energy. Leaving the territory worsens the injury. His final peak strike requires resonance with Seo’s Phenomena Extinguishing Mantra and consumes every drop of true origin, leaving him unable and unwilling to recover. After his death, Great Mountain uses the technique’s remnant as a medium elsewhere, which preserves causality rather than Hon Won’s consciousness. (Chapters 245, 327–332, 532, 562)

Spatial movement, domain, and spiritual eyes

Hon Won folds space through Flying Escape and shrinking-earth movement, creates gates linked to Heaven-Earth Palace, and expands a domain that alters distance and traps fleeing enemies. He can also compress the domain around his own body to carry its supporting conditions beyond the palace boundary for a time. His spiritual eyes inspect hidden cultivation, perceive Heart Tribe influence, and recognize Yeon Wei even when she conceals herself inside another soul. These abilities make disguise and simple flight unreliable against him. (Chapters 252–253, 327–332)

Every extension is bounded by his cursed circulation and institutional center. The farther he travels from Heaven-Earth Palace, the more Yin and Yang twist, forcing him to stop pursuit or risk collapse. His eyes provide evidence but do not make his interpretation impartial; recognition of Yeon Wei triggers conclusions shaped by manipulated history. His latest use of perception occurs after the fate is broken, when restored memories let him distinguish the beloved person from the enemy Great Mountain’s arrangement made of her. Palace authority and Various Omens

As Palace Lord, Hon Won commands Penglai law enforcers, Heaven-Earth inspectors, bounties, and the Flying Immortal Platform’s defensive territory. This turns his personal technique into institutional reach: he can close routes, mobilize Four-Axis forces, and make the Human Race treat Seo as a dangerous fugitive. The authority depends on office and cooperation, however; subordinates can fail, political interests complicate action, and the palace’s fixed duties compete with private revenge. (Chapters 239–257, 278–285)

At the end, Hon Won uses Sunshine from the Immortal Art Various Omens to resist celestial fate and prolong Yeon Wei’s remaining lifespan. The effect lasts only moments and consumes the life and soul force he might otherwise reserve for resurrection. It cannot heal their history or create a permanent extension. Its latest and only decisive application is relational: Hon Won spends everything to hold Yeon Wei until both choose the same death. (Chapter 532)

Relationships

Yeon Wei: Political fiancée, ancient enemy, and true beloved. Their curses and betrayals remain real, but recovered memory lets them reject Great Mountain’s imposed ending and die together by choice.
Seo Eun-hyun: Fugitive, combat opponent, and eventual liberator. Hon Won repeatedly hunts and kills Seo across cycles; Seo later breaks the calamity governing Hon Won and Yeon Wei.
Hon Wei and his other children: Descendants and Penglai law enforcers through whom he extends institutional authority. His treatment of them is distant enough that family status does not reliably protect them from political calculation.
Oh Hye-seo: Final combat target. Hon Won spends his recovered cultivation and origin to incapacitate her before going to Yeon Wei.
Gwak Am: Divine manipulator behind the twisted fate and source connected to Hon Won’s Immortal Title. Great Mountain later uses the remnant of Hon Won’s technique without preserving him as a living agent.
