Ham Jin

Ham Jin is a Lower-Realm cultivator whose Ghost Furnace Body first makes him a coveted vessel and eventually a powerful disciple of Seo Eun-hyun in A Regressor’s Tale of Cultivation. Seo’s consciousness can manifest through him without making every projected technique Ham’s own advancement. After death, Underworld recovery, and refinement as the Immortal Treasure Unruly Chain, Ham retains personal continuity and grows into a leader willing to oppose his master when obedience would harm the lives they are meant to protect.

Biography

Ghost Furnace disciple and contested vessel

Ham Jin’s Lower-Realm rite reaches Seo while a local master intends to seize the rare Ghost Furnace Body. He asks for a path strong enough to survive possession and accepts a modified Wuji method taught across realms. Beginning from a low cultivation state, he follows remote instruction and reaches Qi Building within a year. Fearful pragmatism becomes discipleship as the power he builds starts belonging to his own practice rather than only the patron answering him. (Chapters 350, 353–354)

The Ghost Furnace constitution lets a larger share of Seo’s distant power descend than an ordinary body at the same realm could tolerate. Seo manifests through Ham’s upper dantian and intervenes in the Ancient Force conflict, while Ham witnesses techniques and authorities far beyond his formal cultivation. The arrangement makes him strategically important but does not erase the owner of the body: projected output, Seo’s consciousness, and Ham’s personal realm remain distinct. (Chapters 358–373)

Exposure to higher powers also creates vulnerability. Ham learns from what passes through him, yet possessors and corrupting authorities continue to view his receptivity as access. A later corruption forces Seo to choose between preserving the current body and preserving the disciple’s personhood. Ham’s early history therefore turns the idea of a perfect vessel against itself: a body useful to gods matters because the person inside it can grow beyond their use. (Chapters 358–373, 556–558)

Death, return, and the Three Divine Spirits

Seo kills the corrupted Ham, tracks his continuing identity through the Underworld, and revives him in the Bearing Tree Heavenly Domain. The sequence removes the hostile influence without treating death as automatic proof that the disciple has ceased to exist. Ham is then refined into Unruly Chain, an Immortal Treasure state that preserves will and memory while changing the body and its operational relationship to Seo. (Chapters 558, 562–573)

Inside Seo’s sealed spacetime, Ham cultivates with Yeo Hwi and Yu Hwi while civilizations develop beneath an increasingly unstable master. He advances rapidly, awakens an Immortal Art, and becomes the ethical center of the Three Divine Spirits. When Yeo Hwi proposes predatory or sacrificial solutions, Ham insists that created lives are not expendable merely because the cultivators above them possess more power. (Chapters 577–585)

That principle eventually requires disobedience. Ham coordinates a corrective attack, bargains cautiously with Oh Hye-seo, and tries to awaken Seo without converting entire civilizations into disposable weapons. Loyalty means saving the master’s mind and victims rather than endorsing every command. After reunion and further cultivation, Ham reaches Upper Immortal and remains a defender of later realms, completing the movement from intended possession victim to autonomous moral leader. Appearance and personality

Ham’s defining early physical feature is the Ghost Furnace Body, a constitution described through its extraordinary receptivity rather than elaborate outward decoration. In the Immortal Treasure phase he appears as a boy or young man in black martial clothing, often surrounded by hazy mist. The revived and refined form remains Ham Jin; the younger appearance and chain-like manifestations do not create a replacement identity. (Chapters 350, 353–354, 578–579)

He begins frightened, practical, and willing to grasp any path that prevents possession. Training and repeated crises make him disciplined, loyal, skeptical of needless sacrifice, and capable of confronting stronger companions. His mature loyalty includes judgment: Ham can oppose Seo in order to save him and restrain Yeo Hwi without denying her later contributions. Courage grows from responsibility rather than from losing the instinct to survive. (Chapters 350–373, 556–590)

Abilities and cultivation

Ghost Furnace Body

The Ghost Furnace Body accepts a greater fraction of distant descending power than ordinary cultivators of the same formal realm. It lets Seo manifest through Ham’s upper dantian, operate techniques in the Lower Realm, and accelerate instruction through a stable anchor. This output is borrowed manifestation, not evidence that early Ham personally holds Seo’s realm, knowledge, or full combat capacity. (Chapters 350, 353–373)

Receptivity is also the constitution’s central danger. Masters and higher authorities covet Ham as a vessel, and corruption can enter along channels that ordinary bodies could not support. Survival therefore depends on boundaries, instruction, and eventual independent cultivation. By the Upper Immortal era, the Ghost Furnace origin remains part of his history, but it no longer defines him as an empty container for someone else’s will. (Chapters 350–373, 556–629)

Unruly Chain and mist authority

After resurrection, Ham’s Immortal Treasure identity is Unruly Chain. His body can become mist or chain-like authority, conceal and move through internal worlds, restrain targets, coordinate plans, and channel power cultivated under Filling the Heavens Governing View. An unconscious Immortal-Art seed appears as his independent understanding grows, showing development beyond the functions Seo imposed during refinement. (Chapters 573, 578–585)

Early Unruly Chain remains constrained by Seo’s internal spacetime and overwhelming will. Ham cannot simply overpower the master whose body contains their worlds, so rescue requires allies, planning, and exploiting moments of instability. Across the immortal ladder, his authority matures beyond a static restraint tool into mist, movement, coordination, and Upper-Immortal defense shaped by independent judgment. (Chapters 578–590, 629)

• Seo Eun-hyun: Distant patron, teacher, master, executioner, and rescuer. Ham’s mature discipleship includes opposing Seo when obedience would abandon the master’s own principles.
• Yu Hwi: Fellow disciple, Immortal Treasure, and ethical collaborator in the Three Divine Spirits.
• Yeo Hwi: Predatory pursuer turned fellow protector and ally. Ham challenges her conduct while trusting the responsibility she later develops.
