Dave is a stoic, short-tempered member of the seed group investigated after Letitia's apparent murder. His devotion to Jessica makes him both a suspect and a useful target for Mind Control.

Biography

A seed manipulated by the murder plot

Dave has pursued Jessica since they were fifteen and enters the investigation already jealous of Letitia's closeness to her. Like the other Big Four seeds, he has trained from childhood under specialized methods, but emotional pressure rather than lack of combat preparation becomes his decisive weakness. Mind Control makes him believe he has killed and burned the Head of the Order, and he attempts the murder with a poisoned dagger before Daneel and the real Head stop him. The false memory turns Dave into apparent proof that one of the seeds is a murderer, while his hatred of the Central Continent also helps explain why the group had agreed to target Daneel before the case. He survives the control and is left stable, though the revelations about both Letitia and Jessica permanently undermine the friendships on which the group relied. (Chapters 734–743)
