Thunder God’s Hammer

Thunder God’s Hammer is the divine weapon of the orcs and the signature armament of Emperor Saladin, Gruumsh’s Chosen. Its presence makes Saladin one of the strongest figures on the prime material plane and a central military threat during both wars around Silverymoon.

History

Weapon of the Orc Emperor

Saladin is introduced as the hammer’s possessor while leading Gruumsh’s forces. When he transforms into a giant, the hammer alone grows with him. Other divine powers treat it as a weapon worthy of a direct challenge, and its cost or side effects make Saladin cautious about deploying its full power casually. (Chapters 904, 918, 987, and 1015)

Battles for Silverymoon

The hammer helps Saladin remain competitive with Alustriel and Elminster, and its power contributes to the fall of the old Silverymoon fortifications and the Alliance’s retreat. In the final conflict Saladin brings it to war again; it expands to match his gigantic body while calling down repeated lightning. (Chapters 1154–1157 and 1187–1188)

Abilities and properties

  • Scales with Saladin’s giant transformation rather than remaining at ordinary weapon size. (Chapters 918 and 1188)
  • Calls down lightning and amplifies Saladin’s battlefield presence. (Chapter 1188)
  • Is powerful enough that opposing gods and legendary combatants plan specifically around its deployment. (Chapters 987, 1015, and 1154)
  • Carries unspecified side effects that discourage unrestricted use. (Chapter 1015)
