Yalani

Biography

A protected journey

Fourteen-year-old Yalani travels toward the imperial capital under the protection of her elder sister Hera. Hera keeps her inside the carriage because she understands the dangers of the road, calms her during an ogre attack, and relies on mercenaries including Leylin Farlier and Rafiniya for defence. Yalani's relief at reaching each safe settlement and delight in Rafiniya's heroic stories reflect how sheltered she remains from the decisions keeping her alive. (Chapters 859–871)

The journey's real purpose is Yalani's engagement to Viscount Daniel. Her family has suffered enough misfortune that the sisters arrive poorly dressed, without reliable elders or allies, and must depend on the match for a future in the capital. Yalani is initially proud and grateful upon arrival, then blushes at the romantic interpretation of meeting her fiancé. Her optimism contrasts with Hera's caution and with the household's contempt for travellers who look like impoverished commoners. (Chapters 871–873)

Daniel and the loss of security

Daniel gives the sisters splendid clothes and begins a sexual relationship with Yalani before any wedding. Yalani views him with affection, while Hera sees both his impatience and his increasingly predatory interest in herself. Because the engagement is also the sisters' only apparent protection in the capital, Yalani's emotional and material dependence makes Daniel's position especially coercive. (Chapter 877)

Daniel later brings both sisters into a private situation and attempts to use them for his own benefit. Leylin interrupts, relying on his noble status rather than the mercenary identity they knew. Yalani covers herself, recognises him only after Hera does, and leaves in visible silence after the danger passes. Leylin directs the sisters toward Marquise Louise if they cannot remain in Daniel's household, but the corpus does not establish where Yalani goes or whether the engagement formally ends. (Chapter 878)

Appearance and personality

Yalani is a fourteen-year-old girl who closely resembles Hera. Plain, travel-worn clothing initially makes both sisters look like country girls; Daniel later dresses her splendidly, and she appears more mature after reaching his household. She is sheltered, curious, romantic, and occasionally proud, relying heavily on Hera's judgement even when her trust in Daniel conflicts with her sister's unease. (Chapters 859–878)

Magic, bloodline, and abilities

Yalani is not shown casting magic, using a class feature, fighting, or possessing a supernatural bloodline. She depends on Hera, hired mercenaries, and later noble patronage for safety. Her noble engagement provides social access but is not a personal ability and becomes the mechanism through which Daniel isolates her. No combat skill, profession, or magical item should be inferred from her status. (Chapters 859–878)
