Biography

Persecuted advocate for peace

Memphis is a dark-elven noble who advocates peace while his rulers prepare war against the humans of Twilight Zone. Branded a traitor to the Dark Lord and matriarch, he is chased across the border by Underground Winter Spider knights. A cursed arrow pierces his body despite his fire barrier, and only an explosive scroll lets him escape long enough for Baelin to find him (Chapter 346).

When the knights catch up, the wounded Memphis uses a Weakening Imprint scroll to suppress riders and mounts so Baelin and Jenny can defeat them. He then explains that attempted assassinations began because of his peace advocacy and swears on the honour of dark royalty to repay his rescuers. Baelin chooses to escort him back into the Dark Elven Empire in the hope of stopping the war (Chapter 347).

Warning central Twilight Zone

After the Dark Elven Empire's first plan fails, Memphis learns through his connections that another conspiracy threatens the foundations of the human region. He and Baelin travel toward central Twilight Zone, where Memphis presents as a pale-skinned human noble and explains that their warning will carry little weight without support from a rank 2 Magus. He proposes contacting Leylin Farlier, whose power he respects despite the racial divide (Chapter 363).

Memphis remains wary when Vinas approaches and focuses on verifying her warning rather than accepting a heroic prophecy at face value. Later, bloodline-detection formations force him into an uncomfortable bandaged disguise that hides his ears and identity. During the final crisis, he joins Vinas and Aaron in stopping Baelin from rushing blindly to Leylin's mansion. His fate after that intervention is not stated (Chapters 364, 371, 374).

Appearance and personality

Memphis is a handsome dark elf with pointed ears, silver-streaked blood, and enough status to wear luxurious clothing. Under concealment he appears as a pale-skinned human noble, although the exact transformation method is not identified. He is apologetic about endangering strangers, sceptical of easy promises, and persistent in seeking peace. Noble pride also makes enforced disguises and confinement especially frustrating for him.

Magic, bloodline, and abilities

Memphis can fly a few metres above the ground on translucent white wings and chant to launch multiple crimson fireballs. He also forms a fiery barrier behind himself, though a commander's cursed arrow breaks it almost instantly. These scenes establish mobility and fire magic but do not state his formal Magus rank (Chapter 346).

Several of his strongest effects come from consumable scrolls. One releases two destructive balls of light and accompanies his escape; another casts Weakening Imprint, a grey halo that selectively avoids allies and suppresses the strength of spider knights and their mounts. Using the latter while already cursed causes Memphis to spit blood and faint, showing the interaction between his injuries and magical exertion (Chapters 346–347).

Memphis can prepare additional spells and recognises magical threats, but no further named personal spell is completed on page. His human presentation and later bandaged concealment help him cross hostile territory; the supplied chapters do not clearly identify which effect is his own transformation magic and which depends on external disguise measures (Chapters 363–371).
