Marb
Marb Lilytell is a peak rank 1 Magus, the grandfather of Bosain, and the strongest remaining pillar of the Lilytell Family. Bosain's death turns his family loyalty into an indiscriminate hunt for Leylin Farlier, whose growth Marb correctly fears but cannot stop.
Biography
Revenge for Bosain
Marb intercepts Leylin after tracing him through the conflict surrounding the Dylan Gardens. He does not approach the death as a matter for investigation or compensation: Bosain was his last close blood relative, and he intends to kill the suspected murderer regardless of wider consequences. In their first clash, Marb uses overwhelming gravity and a body fused with liquid metal to deny Leylin the usual weak points of an elderly Magus. Leylin's attacks damage and nearly decapitate him, but the dispersed metallic body survives long enough to force a retreat. Leylin escapes with a better understanding of Marb's structure, while Marb is left knowing that a young Warlock has already endured his best pressure. (Chapters 223–225)
Hunting Zone Three
Marb answers failure with escalation. He attacks Hunting Zone Three, kills acolytes and Magi without distinguishing allies from obstacles, and pursues another Magus as bait for Leylin. The violence serves two purposes: it punishes anyone who might shelter his target and creates enough danger to draw Leylin into a second battle. Beneath Marb's confidence is a rational fear that every delay favors the Warlock. Leylin's bloodline is advancing quickly, whereas Marb is already near the limit of rank 1; revenge therefore becomes more urgent and more destructive as time passes. (Chapters 227–229)
Final confrontation
Leylin enters the rematch after a second bloodline transition and can now withstand the gravity that dominated their first fight. He destroys portions of Marb's metal body, forcing Marb to enlarge himself into a giant combat form and tear away a damaged arm rather than let it impede him. Marb then commits to mutual destruction, believing he has caught Leylin at close range. The target is a shadow clone. With Marb's strongest attack spent and his body exposed, Leylin binds him with shadow tendrils and kills him. Marb's death removes the Lilytell Family's strongest protector and accelerates its decline. (Chapters 229–231 and 283)
Appearance and personality
Marb ordinarily resembles an old man, but the liquid-metal fusion lets him become a silver figure more than five metres tall. Weapons and armor can rise directly from that surface, so the transformed body looks manufactured rather than biological.
His defining trait is obsessive family vengeance. He is experienced enough to understand Leylin's growing threat and prepared enough to carry a specific counter to petrification, yet grief narrows every strategic decision. He values Bosain's death above the lives of unrelated Magi and even above the Lilytell Family's long-term security. His final willingness to die with Leylin is the endpoint of that obsession. (Chapters 223–231)
Magic, bloodline, and abilities
Metal-element conversion
Marb is a peak rank 1 Magus whose elemental conversion is aligned with metal and close to completion. That affinity lets him manipulate metallic matter with much greater efficiency than a generalist of the same rank. His attacks change shape rapidly between close-range edges, restraining chains, heavy blunt forms, armor, and launched fragments, allowing one material to answer several combat distances. The limitation is that lost metal still reduces the body available for later transformations, especially when an opponent can destroy it faster than Marb can reorganize it. (Chapters 223–230)
Fused liquid-metal body
Marb has fused himself with a metallic creature or artifact until it functions as his body. His spirit is distributed through the liquid metal rather than concentrated in ordinary organs, so decapitation and wounds that would kill a human-shaped Magus are not immediately fatal. He can enlarge the body, reform damaged sections, and sacrifice a ruined limb. This resilience is not immortality: sufficiently broad destruction reduces his usable mass, and Leylin's shadows can bind the remaining structure once Marb's momentum is broken. The fusion also makes his combat power dependent on an external material creation even though it has become physically inseparable from him. (Chapters 223–231)
Gravity formation
Marb deploys a prepared formation that raises local gravity to as much as twenty times normal. The pressure slows movement, burdens spellcasting, and creates openings for his heavy metal attacks; against the earlier Leylin, it nearly decides the fight. It is a field effect produced through a formation rather than proof that gravity is Marb's innate element. Leylin's second bloodline transition supplies enough physical and magical resistance to operate inside it, demonstrating that the formation can be overcome by a target whose body has advanced beyond Marb's expectation. (Chapters 224 and 229–230)
Tactical counters and failure
Marb prepares an anti-petrification talisman because he knows the Kemoyin bloodline gaze is dangerous. This shows good intelligence gathering and prevents a single known technique from ending the battle. His larger failure is tactical rigidity: once Leylin resists gravity and damages the fused body, Marb chooses a suicidal close-range finish without verifying the target. The shadow clone converts his strongest commitment into the opening that kills him. (Chapters 224 and 229–231)
Relationships
- Bosain: Grandson and last close blood relative. Bosain's death consumes Marb's remaining priorities.
- Leylin Farlier: Suspected killer whom Marb hunts. Leylin learns from their first battle and defeats him in the rematch.
- Lilytell Family: Marb's household and political legacy. His revenge is nominally for the family, but his death leaves it substantially weaker.
Items
- Liquid Metal: The self-created metallic artifact or creature fused into Marb's body. It supplies his interchangeable weapons and abnormal survivability but loses effectiveness as its mass is destroyed. (Chapters 223–231)
- Anti-petrification talisman: A prepared counter to Leylin's Kemoyin gaze. It answers that specific threat but does not protect Marb from shadows, bloodline-enhanced force, or tactical deception. (Chapter 224)
- Gravity formation: A deployed magical field that creates extreme gravitational pressure. It is a prepared external system, not Marb's metal affinity itself. (Chapters 224 and 229–230)
