Biography

The Lilytell heir on a secret expedition

Bosain is a Level 3 acolyte of Abyssal Bone Forest Academy and a leading heir of the Lilytell Family, one of the academy's three great Magus houses. He joins Jayden's clandestine expedition with Shaya, Roth, and Leylin Farlier, bringing resources unavailable to ordinary acolytes. His spiritual force has already reached fifteen points—the numeric requirement for attempting official-Magus advancement—but he conceals both that fact and the full scope of his equipment. (Chapters 104–105)

The party depends on Bosain for more than family prestige. He recognizes Curagerian script, helps interpret the map to Dylan Gardens, and possesses enough historical education to connect the site to Norco Curadu Sfar, the alternate identity behind Great Magus Serholm's legacy. That learning is incomplete—Leylin translates more accurately—but it gives Bosain early reason to understand how valuable the remnant may be. (Chapters 105–110, 115–116)

Bright Silver and escalating costs

Bosain's liquid-metal artifact, Bright Silver, makes him the expedition's strongest apparent combatant. It automatically forms shields, becomes full armor, creates a greatsword or clouds of needles, and unfolds as wings for limited flight. He uses it to withstand an ambush, decapitate a Moonlight Mayfly, fight a Black Horrall Snake, and protect his spirit inside the remnant. Every transformation draws from a finite stored charge, however, and repeated use steadily removes the advantage on which his confidence rests. (Chapters 106–114)

His attempt to bind the Black Horrall Snake exposes a second limitation. The contract scroll is intended for a weakened magical creature, but the snake's spiritual force remains too strong. Its resistance rebounds through the contract, injuring Bosain's spirit and damaging the artifact linked to it. A costly Light Magus protection rune heals him, but the rune is consumed. The failed capture leaves Bosain alive while stripping away precisely the family safeguards he later needs. (Chapters 111–113)

Serholm's legacy and the murder of allies

The surviving expedition reaches an inheritance so important that Bosain refuses to let any witness leave. He has already treated captives as disposable probes and accepted Roth and Shaya's deaths as operational losses; now family ambition converts that ruthlessness into a plan to kill companions. He attacks Jayden first, reasoning that Jayden's vine badge is nearly drained. Jayden feeds it blood to strengthen a last shield, but Bright Silver divides into needles and penetrates it. (Chapters 106–116)

Bosain then offers Leylin a false choice of deaths. He expects a newly advanced Potioneering acolyte to be exhausted and does not realize that Leylin has deliberately hidden the Fallen Star Pendant, conserved magic power, and encouraged Bosain to expend every trump card. The betrayal is therefore not defeated by sudden luck: Leylin has spent the whole expedition measuring Bright Silver's charge and arranging for Bosain to face him only after the snake, spirits, and Jayden have depleted it. (Chapters 114–117)

Defeat, concealment, and family vengeance

Bright Silver can still form armor against frost and physical blows, but it no longer has the energy to overcome Leylin's defense. Leylin breaks Bosain's limbs, cuts out his tongue to prevent incantations, and binds him within the collapsing secret plane. He leaves Bright Silver with its owner rather than risk an unknown Lilytell tracking or ownership safeguard. The remnant's destruction kills Bosain and helps make the loss look like an expedition disaster. (Chapters 116–120)

The deception delays rather than eliminates consequences. Bosain is the last close descendant of his grandfather Marb, whose grief drives a long hunt for the suspected killer. That pursuit helps force Leylin from the South Coast and remains dangerous even after Leylin becomes an official Magus. Bosain's inherited power cannot save him in the remnant, but the family system behind it continues exerting pressure long after his death. (Chapters 120, 144, 223–230)

Appearance and personality

Bosain has bright golden hair and wears grand silver robes suited to a great family's heir. His polished speech and amiable public manner project confidence, while his readiness to keep Bright Silver prepared beneath that courtesy shows habitual suspicion.

He is educated, decisive, and brave enough to fight dangerous magical creatures. Those strengths coexist with entitlement and cruelty: he regards captives as expendable mechanisms, assumes weaker acolytes should obey him, and treats exclusive possession of Serholm's legacy as sufficient justification for murder. When family equipment is exhausted, pride prevents him from reassessing the opponent he has underestimated.

Magic, bloodline, and abilities

Level 3 acolyte and advancement threshold

Bosain has fifteen points of spiritual force, meeting the stated spiritual criterion for becoming an official Magus. This is readiness for an attempt, not proof of advancement: a candidate also needs an appropriate defensive Rank 1 spell model, Grine Water or an equivalent aid, and survival of the breakthrough. Bosain dies while still a Level 3 acolyte. (Chapters 105–117)

Bright Silver's adaptive forms

Bright Silver is a low-grade liquid-metal Magic Artifact that responds without ordinary spell chanting. It can form an automatic shield, sealed armor and face protection, a longsword or enlarged greatsword, flying needles and darts, binding filaments, and silver wings. The versatility lets Bosain switch rapidly between defense, melee, ranged saturation, capture, and flight instead of preparing a separate spell for each task. (Chapters 106–116)

The artifact is powerful at acolyte level but not inexhaustible. It must be recharged, heavy transformations consume its reserve, and contract backlash can damage it through its spiritual link to the user. Once drained, it becomes effectively inert. Later evaluation also places its speed and force below equipment suitable for an official Magus, preventing its temporary dominance among acolytes from being mistaken for unrestricted Rank 1 power. (Chapters 112–118, 138)

Physical and artifact-assisted combat

Bosain has enough physical enhancement and weapon skill to exploit Bright Silver as a greatsword rather than merely hide behind it. At maximum output he concentrates armor material into a five-meter blade, approaching the practical combat style of a Branded Swordsman. The comparison concerns body-and-weapon performance; Bosain does not possess a Branded Swordsman's implanted alchemical formations or official-Magus rank. (Chapters 107, 113–116)

Contract scroll and spiritual backlash

His sealing scroll can impose a magical-creature contract when a target has been sufficiently weakened. Failure creates two-way spiritual backlash: the resistant creature's spiritual force strikes the caster through the forming connection. Against the Black Horrall Snake, this injures Bosain and the linked Bright Silver, demonstrating that an expensive contract cannot substitute for correctly assessing the target's remaining soul strength. (Chapters 111–112)

Stored Rank 1 spell and family protections

Bosain carries a grey scroll containing a Rank 1 fire spell that manifests a Three-Legged Golden Crow. An acolyte can activate the stored spell only after a lengthy incantation, and the scroll is consumed after use. His Light Magus protection rune can heal severe spiritual injury, but is likewise a one-use family safeguard. Both provide official-Magus-scale effects without giving Bosain the reserves or flexibility of an official Magus. (Chapters 112, 115–116)

Languages and inheritance knowledge

Family education lets Bosain identify Curagerian writing, ancient names, contract principles, and the value of Serholm's records. Translation gaps and his failed contract show the boundary of that education. He possesses broad inherited knowledge, not the exhaustive analysis or experimental modeling that Leylin brings to the expedition. (Chapters 108–116)

Relationships

• Leylin Farlier: Bosain first treats Leylin as a useful potion expert, then tries to silence him and is killed by Leylin's staged counterattack.
• Jayden: Jayden brings Bosain into the expedition; Bosain later attacks him over the inheritance.
• Shaya: A fellow expedition member whom Bosain ultimately intends to eliminate with the other witnesses.
• Marb: Bosain’s grandfather and last close blood relative, who seeks revenge after his death.
