Leo
Biography
Respectable host and hidden predator
Leo Oakheart presents the Azure Mountain auction and anonymous barter as a secure market. He explains the limits on public offerings, forbids violence inside the formation, and provides random exits supposedly unknown even to the Oakheart Clan. His warmth and willingness to apologise protect the auction's reputation, which is the commercial foundation of his family's power. (Chapters 455 and 460–461)
Behind that service, Leo secretly marks buyers and sellers with stardust bugs and follows them after they leave the protected area. He dispatches Crystal Phase enforcers to rob valuable participants, kill witnesses, and supply the clan's underwater prison. When Leylin Farlier, attending in disguise, refuses a pressured sale, Leo trades generously in public to repair appearances and then assigns an executioner once Leylin departs. The discrepancy between the advertised random exit and hidden tracking is the core of his operation. (Chapters 460–463)
Hunting Leylin
Leylin kills the first pursuer and destroys some of the bugs, threatening exposure of a secret known only to Leo and the Azure Mountain King. A costly prophecy later identifies him as a newly advanced Crystal Phase Magus, so Leo takes an elite team, a rank 4 scroll, and a spy inside the Ouroboros Clan to silence him. The preparation would overwhelm an average target of that rank, but the prophecy does not measure Leylin's exceptional combat strength. (Chapters 463–464 and 485–486)
Leo's team slows Leylin long enough for the rank 4 spell to fire, but the scroll activates too slowly in a rank 3 Magus's hands and Leylin escapes its white light. Leylin then reverses the chase, kills the summoned Hocada Beast, and eliminates the remaining protection around the clan chief. Leo flees toward his grandfather's approaching clone and slows down when he hears the Morning Star command Leylin to stop. His certainty that inherited protection makes him untouchable gives Leylin the opening to decapitate him before the clone fully manifests. (Chapters 486–488)
Appearance and personality
Leo is a gold-haired, middle-aged nobleman who wears a swallow-tailed coat while hosting and a robe in battle. His warm smile, elegant speech, and public apology are deliberate reputation management. In private he is controlling, cruel toward prisoners and subordinates, and furious when events leave his plan. His final mistake is not ignorance of danger but absolute trust in his grandfather's status. (Chapters 455–488)
Magic, bloodline, and abilities
Peak Crystal Phase
Leo is a rank 3 Magus at the peak of the Crystal Phase and the strongest active field leader of his clan below its Morning Star patron. He concentrates substantial energy and can fight alongside other Crystal Phase Magi, but is not personally comparable to his grandfather. Leylin's superior Warlock body and techniques destroy his team once their prepared rank 4 attack fails. (Chapters 463 and 485–488)
Stardust-bug surveillance
The Oakheart Clan secretly places stardust bugs on auction participants. The bugs survive concealment and random teleportation, relay tracking information, and let Leo identify targets after they leave the no-violence zone. Their covert nature is essential: public knowledge would destroy the auction's reputation and unite numerous Magi against the clan. They can be detected and destroyed by a sufficiently capable target, with the loss itself alerting the Azure Mountain King. (Chapters 460–464)
Rank 4 spell scroll
Leo channels spiritual force into a scroll that releases a rank 4 spell of destructive white light. The attack can kill a normal Crystal Phase Magus, but a rank 3 caster activates it much more slowly than a Morning Star would and expends considerable effort. Leylin uses the delay to break through the team and escape the affected area. This is a single prepared resource, not Leo's permanent mastery of rank 4 magic. (Chapter 486)
Hocada Beast
Leo can call a Hocada Beast with a wolf's upper body and octopus-like lower limbs as a combat trump card. Whether the creature is summoned, contracted, or stored is not explained. It intercepts Leylin but is cut apart and crumbles like dirt, proving inadequate against the Warlock's full retaliation. (Chapter 487)
Clan command
Leo controls an elite unit of Crystal Phase Magi through clan leverage over people and interests they value. He uses locating crystals, assigns numbered teams, and coordinates ambushes. Their obedience and combined strength are institutional assets backed by the Azure Mountain King, not evidence that Leo can create or personally dominate Crystal Phase minds by spell. (Chapters 462–463 and 485–487)
