Carol — Warlock of the Magus World

Carol is a Radiant Moon Magus under the Blazing Flame Monarch whose pursuit methods combine aura tracking, soul curses, and dream manipulation. She is one of the specialists sent to hunt Leylin Farlier, but the false life she builds around his consciousness becomes the route through which he injures her truesoul and destroys every safeguard she prepared against death.

Biography

Joining the hunt

Carol accompanies two other high-ranking Magi in the Blazing Flame Monarch's attempt to eliminate Leylin after he kills Stuart. She understands that their target is unusually dangerous: although Leylin is publicly treated as a Morning Star Warlock, his victory proves that he can kill a Radiant Moon opponent under the right conditions. Her warning does not stop the mission, because the group considers the destruction of such an exceptional enemy more important than the risk involved. (Chapter 619)

The hunters recover Leylin's trail through a division of labour. One companion summons a Time Recall mirror, while Carol reaches into its reconstructed scene with Aura Extraction and removes a strand of his residual aura. She stores that trace in a transparent crystal ball. When its dark stream enters her face, she can sense the direction in which Leylin has travelled. This gives the group a target for the soul curse she has recently researched. (Chapters 619–620)

Building Leylin's false life

Carol's curse does not simply show Leylin an illusion. It catches his consciousness in an internally consistent modern world, replaces his history with a mortal life, and pressures him to accept that life as genuine. Within it, “Sister Carol” is a famous singer, his neighbour, and eventually his lover—the emotional centre meant to make the fabricated identity desirable enough that he stops resisting. The surrounding world supplies relationships, memories, and social expectations that reinforce the same conclusion. (Chapters 620–623)

Leylin's unease persists despite the curse's emotional pressure. By comparing the world against inconsistencies in his identity and relying on the A.I. Chip's support, he concludes that Carol's dream-role is not an innocent person but a shell connected to the caster. He destroys that connection and escapes through Dreamscape. The curse therefore fails at the point designed to bind him most strongly: the attachment to Carol becomes a visible structural weakness once he refuses the false life. (Chapters 621–624)

Backlash and destruction

In the waking world, Carol is seated at an altar opposite the crystal focus when the spell breaks. The crystal cracks, the damage travels back through the active soul connection, and she collapses with an injured truesoul. A companion's green weapon restores her consciousness, but it cannot undo the injury. Carol admits that the spell was designed to deceive a Morning Star truesoul; Leylin's Radiant Moon-level soul strength and his method of escaping the dream exceed the conditions under which she expected it to work. Leylin attacks before the hunters can recover. Carol uses innate defences and three pieces of middle-grade magic equipment against the crimson blades released by the Scarlet Earring, but all three pieces are destroyed merely stopping the first attack. The group then combines its truesoul power through the spell formation Three Souls in One. Because the curse backlash has already damaged Carol, she is the weakest link in that union and approaches collapse first. Leylin petrifies her, destroys the resulting statue, and follows the unique connection of her truesoul beyond her ruined body. (Chapter 625)

Carol's survival preparations include Morning Star clones and a life regeneration pool. Ordinarily these would allow a high-ranking Magus to return after bodily death. They share the same truesoul, however, and Leylin has intercepted that common root. He destroys the clones and the spirit in the regeneration pool in sequence, making Carol's death permanent. Her loss, alongside Eugene's, later reduces the forces protecting the Blazing Flame Monarch. (Chapters 626–627 and 652)

Appearance and personality

Carol's black robe conceals most of her true appearance, though her smaller physique and gentle voice distinguish her from the other hunters. Her exposed arm is smooth and jade-like, and she shows concern for the condition of her skin. Inside the fabricated world, Sister Carol appears as an exquisite, doll-like young singer whose hair is worn in two plaits. That appearance is part of the curse's constructed role rather than a reliable portrait of Carol's waking body. (Chapters 619–624)

She is a confident specialist rather than a reckless brawler. Carol evaluates Leylin's previous victory seriously, researches a method intended to bypass conventional combat, and coordinates readily with companions whose abilities complement her own. Her confidence depends on a mistaken power assessment: she expects to be invading a Morning Star truesoul. When Leylin proves stronger, the same close soul contact that made the curse dangerous leaves her terrified, injured, and unable to recover before direct combat begins. (Chapters 619–625)

Magic, bloodline, and abilities

Aura extraction and pursuit

Carol can extract a target's lingering aura from a magically reconstructed scene. Aura Extraction requires a usable trace—the Time Recall mirror supplies one in this case—and converts it into something she can physically collect. The transparent crystal ball then preserves that aura and lets her read the target's direction when its energy enters her body. This is a pursuit chain, not unrestricted omniscience: another Magus produces the recalled scene, Carol isolates the aura, and the crystal acts as the tracking focus. (Chapters 619–620)

Soul curse and dream construction

Her principal offensive technique attacks identity through the soul. Using Leylin's aura, an altar, the crystal focus, and assistance from her companions, Carol places his consciousness in a false life detailed enough to supply a new past, career, relationships, and emotional commitments. Sister Carol functions as both the dream's strongest inducement and a shell connected to the caster. Acceptance would leave the target trapped; destroying the shell severs an important part of the spell. (Chapters 620–624)

The technique is powerful because it avoids a straightforward contest of destructive spells, but that intimacy also creates its limit. Carol designed it around the truesoul of a Morning Star. A Radiant Moon-level target can retain enough resistance to test the illusion, and Leylin's A.I. Chip helps him reject its substituted identity. Once he attacks the connected shell and escapes through Dreamscape, the unfinished curse rebounds through its own link and wounds Carol's truesoul. It is therefore dangerous to the caster when used against a soul stronger or more self-aware than expected. (Chapters 621–624)

Radiant Moon soul force and combined formation

As a Radiant Moon Magus, Carol possesses a truesoul and defences far beyond ordinary Morning Stars. She and the other hunters can merge their soul power through Three Souls in One, temporarily operating as a collective formation. The formation depends on all three contributors: Carol's prior injury makes her the point nearest failure, so combining strength cannot erase damage already present in one member. (Chapter 625)

Her clones and life regeneration pool are resurrection safeguards linked to the same truesoul rather than independent copies of her mind. They can replace a destroyed body only while that shared root remains secure. Leylin defeats the system by tracing and attacking the common connection, demonstrating that redundancy at the bodily level does not protect against direct interception of the truesoul. (Chapter 626)

Direct defence

Carol has innate defensive magic and carries several pieces of middle-grade magic equipment. These measures can intercept the Scarlet Earring's blades, but doing so destroys all three pieces and does not restore the soul strength lost to the curse. Her final battle shows that her expertise is most dangerous when she controls preparation and distance; after backlash, she cannot trade attacks evenly with Leylin. (Chapter 625)

Relationships

Leylin Farlier: Carol treats him as a dangerous enemy whose soul can nevertheless be deceived. He rejects her fabricated relationship, turns the curse's connection against her, and destroys her body, clones, and regeneration pool.
Eugene: A fellow hunter and subordinate of the same Monarch. Their deaths during the failed pursuit diminish their patron's remaining protection.
Blazing Flame Monarch: Carol's patron. Her hunt is part of his faction's effort to remove Leylin before the Warlock becomes an even greater threat.
The other hunters: Their Time Recall spell, restorative weapon, and shared formation support Carol's specialities. Her work is repeatedly shown as one part of a coordinated three-person operation.
