Aragon
Biography
Emperor under the Shadow Weave
Aragon rules the technologically advanced Shadow Empire while secretly pursuing freedom from the Mistress of the Night. His apparent serenity conceals a plan to replace dependence on the Shadow Weave with personal control over the world's collective soul. Project X implants a transmissible mutation through the population, while the Tree of Life is designed to use those altered bodies as its first roots. Twelve girls with unusually pure souls are placed in pearl-like chambers to filter the madness generated when so many consciousnesses are fused. His daughter Ling manages the work without being told that the royal family will be consumed with everyone else. (Chapters 1094–1099)
Sacrifice of the empire
When catastrophe and rebellion threaten the capital, Aragon accelerates both projects rather than abandon years of preparation. He releases the X mutation, seals the palace, and kills officials who resist the sacrifice. At the console he installs Kalle's prophetic eyes and mermaid scales alongside the Book of Salvation, treating stolen bodies and relics as components in an engineered ascension. Hundreds of thousands of tubes drain his mortal body, but the apparatus carries his soul into a tree of light connected to the Shadow Weave. It first extracts infected souls, then reaches ordinary citizens, ability users, and bloodline carriers as its pull grows. (Chapters 1099–1102)
Usurped by Shar
Aragon uses the collected soul force to repel Crowley's attack and declares himself immortal. His roots spread across the empire, attack with soul-draining branches, and begin the staged expansion meant to cover the planet and fuse with the world. The confidence is premature: Jill reveals the will of Shar, who knew of his conspiracy and allowed him to assemble the machinery she needed. The twelve vessels reverse the purification network, strip Aragon's control from the Tree of Life, and leave his already withered mortal remains to collapse into ash. His failed rebellion becomes the delivery mechanism for Shar's own control. (Chapters 1103–1104)
Appearance and personality
Aragon is a graceful, gray-haired monarch who conceals obsession behind serenity. He is intelligent, controlling, and willing to sacrifice family, subjects, and an entire civilization for personal divinity.
Magic, bloodline, and abilities
Imperial authority and the Shadow Weave
Aragon can command Special Forces, seal the palace, direct researchers, and use the Shadow Empire's access to the Shadow Weave. Those capabilities let him coordinate a continental project, but they are institutional privileges rather than innate magic. The Weave itself belongs to Shar, a dependency Aragon is trying to escape; it also gives her a route into the network when his plan matures. (Chapters 1094–1104)
Tree of Life integration
The console transfers Aragon's soul out of his consumed body and into the Tree of Life. Once linked, he controls roots and branches that extract truesouls, fires soul attacks, and builds a soul-force fortress capable of surviving Crowley's strongest strike. Each absorbed consciousness feeds the tree's expansion, increasing its reach from the capital toward the empire and then the planet. This power depends on the prepared tower, the X-infected population, twelve filters, and the Shadow Weave; it is not an ability Aragon possessed before entering the machine. (Chapters 1102–1103)
Limits and stolen components
The twelve pure souls prevent collective madness from overwhelming the project, while Kalle's eyes, mermaid scales, and the Book of Salvation serve as installed resources. Aragon cannot safely perform the fusion without them. His control is also vulnerable at the twelve-pearl core and ultimately subordinate to Shar's deeper authority. The apparent immortality therefore lasts only while the system recognizes him as controller; once the vessels reverse it, his tree-based powers vanish and no living body remains to sustain him. (Chapters 1099–1104)
