Biography

Pure-blood defender of the Holy City

Aegnis belongs to the Stewart Family, one of the Holy City's ten most influential houses and a direct line entrusted with its defense. She is already Rank 5 while only partly mature because her pure blood descends from a Rank 6 three-headed serpent. Her family standing lets her secure bloodline-and-soul-bound residence permits for Belinda and Sophia, shielding them from the Trial's Eye while bringing them into the city's legal order. As a garrison commander Aegnis investigates mutant contamination spreading across the Serpent Plains. She reads the absence of remains as evidence that gluttonous creatures are devouring everything rather than behaving like ordinary predators, and recognizes that the outbreak will reach the city. Repeated missions kill her entire squad and leave her severely wounded, but she returns to the walls and continues coordinating defense. (Chapters 742–753)

An infection no army can hold

Aegnis understands that the Calamity's greatest danger is contagion, not the visible strength of its beasts. Fourteen Stewart relatives become infected in battle and must be destroyed to prevent spread. She rallies soldiers with the family's reputation and prepares the guardian technique, yet privately urges Belinda and Sophia to flee because dead gluttonous creatures are eaten by their own side and converted into further strength. Attrition favors the infection. (Chapters 748–755)

Her warning proves accurate when the second elder and disciplinary corps reveal that they accepted gluttony willingly to gain power. The sudden Rank 6 aura that first appears to reinforce the defense is actually an internal betrayal. Aegnis recognizes the impossible advancement and sounds the alarm, but the city's formations and bloodline hierarchy are already compromised from within. (Chapter 755)

Fall of the Stewarts and forced exile

The Stewart defenders and Aegnis's father fall as the Holy City collapses around the conflict among dignitaries. “Nick” then reveals himself as Leylin Farlier, the cursed fugitive whom the Stewart Family's protection unknowingly admitted. Aegnis immediately understands both the political manipulation and the scale of his power. She refuses evacuation because her surviving family still needs her. (Chapters 755–760)

Leylin overrides that choice, stilling her elemental affinity, bloodline force, and Sacrificer power before removing Aegnis, Belinda, and Sophia from Purgatory. In the Magus World, foreign-world suppression reduces Aegnis from Rank 5 toward Morning Star output. The move saves her life but severs her from the family and institutions that defined her service. Administrator of a subterranean trade passage

Leylin assigns Aegnis and Belinda to the organization built around a subterranean spatial trade passage. Aegnis evaluates recruits, identifies useful commanders such as Tryxis, coordinates local organizations, and receives broad discretion over personnel. Her garrison experience transfers into logistics and political administration even though the new world suppresses her original combat level. (Chapters 762–766)

She later appears in elegant noble dress as “Aunt Aegnis” to Leylin's descendants, congratulating Syre on reaching Breaking Dawn. The role indicates enduring integration into his extended household and administration rather than temporary captivity, although the corpus does not show her regaining the unrestrained Rank 5 power she possessed in Purgatory. Appearance and personality

Aegnis is tall, fair-skinned, and short-haired, with a heroic, androgynous beauty. In battle she wears close-fitting crystal armor; later she adopts the elegant presentation of a noble administrator.

She is proud, sharp-tongued, and disciplined enough to rally frightened soldiers while acknowledging unwinnable conditions in private. Loyalty to family drives her refusal to flee. Her affection for Belinda softens her severity and includes jealousy toward Nick, but does not prevent clear strategic judgment.

Magic, bloodline, and abilities

Rank 5 three-headed-serpent bloodline

Aegnis is a Rank 5 descendant of a Rank 6 giant-serpent line. Her aura manifests as a three-headed python, and Leylin judges that full bloodline maturity could naturally support Rank 6. That is potential rather than achieved progression: her latest confirmed native-world rank is Rank 5, and relocation into the Magus World suppresses her toward Morning Star.
