Mino

Mino is a Black Forest Hall assassin and the first person Jaehwan meets after arriving in 《Chaos》. Her dangerous passive skill gives her the title Witch of Massacre, but her defining choices are refusals to sacrifice companions: she protects Jaehwan and Claire, challenges Jaehwan to value ordinary lives, and later becomes the first citizen of Carpe Diem to publicly lend him her belief.

Biography

Arrival in Chaos and Gorgon

Mino arrives in Chaos after dying in her original world, Arcal, where she cleared a Tower with Claire but refused to abandon endangered companions. In Gorgon's wilderness she secretly accepts a prohibited commission against Red Fox Clan predators and uses Lure to draw horned beasts toward them. Jaehwan's unexpected arrival ruins the setup. She initially reads his nonexistent Adapter rating as helplessness, protects him from men trying to steal his sword, and fights with daggers, Push, and controlled Spiritual Pressure. His intervention saves her in turn, creating a debt she insists on repaying despite the danger of being connected to him. (Chapters 12–19)

She smuggles Jaehwan into Gorgon by bribing guards, but Karlton exposes the attempt and uses Edict to exhaust her. Jaehwan asks that she be spared, and Mino later buys him black clothing and guides him toward Twilight Dusk. Their alliance breaks over his declared intention to destroy the world. Mino argues that Chaos is also inhabited by ordinary people who have no grand goal and still deserve to live safely. By accusing him of treating them as less human than people from the Towers, she makes a moral point that survives their separation and changes how he approaches later hostages. (Chapters 20–26)

Geumcheon Hall then abducts Claire to force Mino to lure Jaehwan into a trap. Mino refuses to betray him and instead attacks the Janya Brothers and more than ten Adapters in an attempt to rescue Claire alone. Jaehwan returns because he understands the threat and remembers that Mino, like him, once rejected regression. He avoids killing the coerced attackers and calls Karlton to contain the crisis, acting on the concern for ordinary lives that Mino had demanded. Her choice therefore both preserves their bond and materially alters his conduct inside Gorgon. (Chapters 27–32)

The Black Cloud released during the conflict raises Mino's soul contamination beyond ninety-five percent and drives her into Forgetting. Believing herself lost, she asks Jaehwan to kill her, but Claire calls for Chunghuh, whose Forgotten One Severance begins redrawing the lines of her fading soul. When Chunghuh runs short of spiritual power, Jaehwan completes the technique by remembering details of Mino's body and character. Mino survives, but recovery leaves her unconscious for nearly half a year. Her early role as Jaehwan's practical guide ends with the supposedly powerless stranger preserving the identity she could no longer hold herself. (Chapters 31–32 and 37)

The Struggle for Gorgon to War on the Metaverse Floors

Mino wakes after Jaehwan has already departed for the Abyss and finds that Gorgon has become unrecognizable. Carpe Diem unites the former citadels, humans live beside horned beasts and Forgotten Ones, and Jaehwan's vacant throne and hero statue mark him as the Last King of Chaos. Her restored soul contamination has fallen below one percent, but she must absorb the consequences of the months she lost: the man she guided for a few days has changed the social order of the entire realm and left before she can speak to him again. (Chapter 99)

Jaehwan's most important legacy for Mino is the Tower of Awakening. She sees people abandon Adaptation, train the Stab, and enter a structure whose trials can cause madness or death. One week after leaving the hospital, she chooses to enter anyway because she wants to understand the path Jaehwan took. She carries the Return Stone that had remained in her hand after her recovery, but the chapter does not establish that she uses it to retreat. Her decision marks a genuine system change—from an experienced Adapter relying on skills to a novice pursuing Awakening—without documenting the later techniques of her resulting Unique World. (Chapters 99–100)

Although Mino does not accompany Jaehwan through the Metaverse, he continues to remember her among the Companions who shaped him. Those memories preserve the terms of their bond rather than inventing an off-page reunion: Mino is the early companion who confronted his indifference, was nearly lost to soul contamination, and chose the Tower he left behind. Her absence from the Abyss campaign is therefore narratively meaningful. Jaehwan carries the effect of her choices upward while Mino and the people of Chaos develop the alternative practice he taught them below. (Chapters 107, 119, and 137)

Only One World to The First Nightmare and Revision

Mino's later importance comes through that separate community. When Maiad's Only One World drains the Abyss and Jaehwan needs freely offered World Power, Karlton's voice reaches Carpe Diem and asks its people to believe in him. Mino is the first to respond. She raises her fist, publicly declares her belief, and sends a silver thread toward the distant battle. Her example overcomes the crowd's embarrassment and uncertainty; the rest of the citadel follows, transforming the shared trust of Chaos's Awakened Ones into the power that helps Jaehwan break the imposed System. (Chapter 235)

After Jaehwan disappears beyond the Abyss, Mino remains one of the people whose memory and belief anchor him to the world he left behind. She later joins Sirwen's long search for him in the mortal world. The search extends beyond an ordinary lifespan: Mino's name eventually disappears from the roll of those still waiting, establishing that she dies before Jaehwan returns. Her life ends without the reunion she sought, but the faith she offered during Only One World had already reached him when direct travel could not. (Chapters 238 and 262)

In the revised First Nightmare, Jaehwan encounters a girl with a beauty mark resembling Mino's before seeing further echoes of people he knew. The resemblance is part of a sequence of familiar images and is not identified as Mino's resurrection or reincarnation. It functions instead as another reminder that his former companions remain legible inside the world he is trying to revise. Mino's confirmed life and death belong to the preceding worlds; the final image should not be used to erase either outcome. (Chapter 265)

Appearance and personality

Mino is a pale, scarlet-haired woman about 165 centimeters tall, with a beauty mark beneath her left eye. Her early clothing includes the black robes and fitted night uniform of an assassin, and she carries seven daggers across her body. Her long sleep leaves her hair longer, but upon waking her face is clear and her eyes bright despite the damage her soul survived. (Chapters 12–14, 18, and 99)

She can perform a flirtatious, unthreatening persona while hiding her status and preparing an ambush, yet pride and loyalty govern her more strongly than deception. Mino cannot comfortably leave a debt unpaid and repeatedly risks herself for Claire, Jaehwan, and even people whose ordinary lives do not advance a grand cause. Her blunt humor and skepticism survive trauma, as does her willingness to change: she moves from terror at horned beasts and Forgotten Ones living in Carpe Diem to entering the Tower that embodies Jaehwan's new order. (Chapters 12–21, 24–32, and 99–100)

Powers and limitations

Adaptation and assassination

As a high-level Adapter trained by Black Forest Hall, Mino can suppress her Spiritual Pressure, assess targets with Precision Scan and measuring devices, and manipulate force through Push. She fights primarily with seven daggers, throwing them rapidly enough to kill ordinary enemies before they can react. False identification and practiced misdirection support her covert work. These methods remain System-based Adapter abilities: they give her an advantage over ordinary residents of Chaos but do not make her competitive with Karlton's Edict, the strongest Hall Masters, or later Awakened Ones. Lure

Lure is Mino's high-grade passive Hidden Skill. It attracts nearby monsters toward her without requiring an active command, letting her direct horned beasts into prepared enemies. The same passivity is its central danger. In Arcal, parties around her repeatedly suffered annihilation, and the pattern led others to call her the Witch of Massacre and abandon her when she was sixteen. Black Forest Hall teaches her to use the effect tactically, but it never becomes selective protection; bringing monsters toward Mino can endanger companions as readily as targets. (Chapters 12–15 and 24)

Soul contamination and restoration

Soul contamination is a vulnerability rather than one of Mino's powers. Ordinary medicine can lower moderate contamination, but the Black Cloud drives hers past ninety-five percent and into Forgetting, causing her body and identity to break down. Chunghuh's Forgotten One Severance creates the blank, picture-like space in which her soul can be redrawn, while Jaehwan's memories supply details needed to complete the interrupted technique. The intervention restores her below one percent contamination only after a prolonged sleep, showing that rescue requires outside knowledge and exceptional spiritual techniques rather than Mino simply resisting the condition herself. (Chapters 20, 31–32, 37, and 99)

Awakening and belief

Mino later enters the Tower of Awakening and is counted among the souls who inherit Jaehwan's legacy. Her demonstrated late ability is the projection of voluntarily offered World Power: when she declares belief in Jaehwan, a silver thread travels from Chaos to the Abyss and joins the support that strengthens him. The story does not name her Unique World or show a personal version of Stab, so her specific combat level after Awakening remains unknown. Her contribution succeeds collectively, through a freely participating population, rather than as an isolated attack. (Chapters 100 and 235)

Power progression

Relationships

• Jaehwan: Mino first protects him as an apparently powerless newcomer, then becomes his guide and debtor. Her insistence that ordinary people matter changes his handling of the Geumcheon Hall hostages. She later follows his path into Awakening and leads Carpe Diem in sending him belief.
• Claire: Claire is Mino's surviving companion from Arcal, guardian during her recovery, and closest familial bond. Mino refuses to trade Jaehwan's life for Claire's but still attempts a nearly suicidal rescue when Geumcheon Hall takes her hostage.
• Karlton: Karlton catches Mino's illegal entry into Gorgon and overwhelms her with Edict, then later assists Jaehwan in resolving the hostage crisis. Years afterward, his request for belief reaches Chaos and prompts Mino's decisive response.
• Chunghuh: Chunghuh uses Selflessness to restore Mino when the Black Cloud nearly erases her soul. His technique provides the space in which Jaehwan can help reconstruct her identity.
• Sirwen Armelt: Mino eventually joins Sirwen's search for Jaehwan in the mortal world. She dies before the search succeeds, leaving Sirwen to continue after her name disappears from those still waiting.
