Sirwen Armelt
Sirwen Armelt is a Dream Demon craftswoman whose research, magic, and engineering support Jaehwan's allies from 《Chaos》 through the war against the Great Lords. Her search for her godfather Mulack Armelt grows into a commitment to remember Jaehwan and rebuild a passage to him after the System falls.
Biography
The Struggle for Gorgon to Catastrophe and the Abyss Expedition
Sirwen enters the conflict as one of the Great Lands' five hundred Master Craftsmen and a protected Dream Demon whose work helped build Geumcheon Hall's power. She has completed research on the Wraithstone, made the Black Cloud, and created unusually capable Nether Ghost Envoys under Im Jinhong's orders. After two thousand years, however, ordinary experience has lost its force for her. Jaehwan's destructive Stab and resemblance to Mulack's spiritual presence interrupt that numbness, and she bargains for the right to stop him herself rather than letting Geumcheon Hall simply destroy Gorgon. (Chapters 64–67)
Sirwen attacks without killing intent, using Dream Demon magic and Mulack's Eight Gates of Hell. Jaehwan's mental energy rebounds the illusion and leaves her unconscious, but she later uses Warp to save him and Chunghuh from Sa Myeonggaram's attack. She agrees to guide them toward the Palace of Rebirth in exchange for the secret behind his escape from the eighth gate. Inside her Personal Workshop, the failed Towers she hides—including Ten Billionth Regressor and Cultivator Doesn't Cultivate—expose the gap between a maker's ideas and a Product's suffering. She has already begun an unfinished Tower inspired by Jaehwan, The World After the Fall, and traveling with him turns that fascination into guilt about cultivation itself. (Chapters 68–72 and 74–79)
Sirwen's personal reason for remaining with the group is the possibility that Jaehwan carries a trace of Mulack, who found her Egg and raised her as his goddaughter. To examine the Record of the Abyss within him, she performs Squeeze for the first time despite her moral opposition to the technique. The flood of his memories traps her in his Uncanny, where she meets a childlike Jaehwan, sees the loneliness beneath his resistance, and helps return scattered memories to their proper place. A red fragment reveals Catastrophe's threat, but Sirwen wakes two weeks too late to deliver the warning. She nevertheless chooses to join Jaehwan, Chunghuh, and Karlton when Catastrophe opens the way into the Abyss. (Chapters 76, 82–85, 91, and 98)
The Metaverse and Its Gods to Climbing the Branch
The passage separates Sirwen from Jaehwan, but she continues the expedition with Chunghuh and Karlton. Over the next two years they steal treasures from the Seven Divine Thrones, gain the name Guides of Destruction, and search the Abyss for him. Sirwen helps build the airship Destruction at the Fifth Site's Artisan Association specifically for that search. Its anti-Nebula design gives the group the mobility to survive as wanted pirates, while Sirwen's command of the ship turns her from a visiting craftswoman into the engineer and navigator holding the dispersed expedition together. (Chapters 102–104, 109, 119, 124, and 133)
Sirwen also uses her public identity rather than abandoning it. Her popularity on SyrenTV makes her one of the Abyss's best-known broadcasters, and the Allies use that visibility while following reports of Jaehwan across the Sites. When a broadcast finally shows him, distance prevents immediate intervention, so she monitors the situation and coordinates with Karlton through Little Brother communications as he moves ahead. The long search transforms an initially one-sided curiosity into durable loyalty: by the time they reunite, she has spent more than two years building, stealing, traveling, and broadcasting in service of finding someone who never asked her to wait. (Chapters 124, 130, 137, 146, 159, and 160)
Ancient Gods and the Grand Auction to The First Nightmare and Revision
Sirwen conceals Destruction above Caspion and pilots it through the Grand Auction's collapse to recover the unconscious Jaehwan and escape the pursuing gods. After the party regroups beyond the Great Forest, her role expands from transport to open resistance. She confronts Great Lord Barcant with Reverse Gravity despite not being a combat specialist, suffers a severe wound when he breaks the restraint, and later remotely controls multiple Gigantes she created for the Seventh Site. The effort bursts blood vessels in her eyes, yet the machines protect allies, pull Runald from danger, and repel Awakened Ones. Her craftsmanship is then recognized as nearing the realm of a true Master. (Chapters 177, 195, 209, 218, and 228–230)
When the Committee considers preventing Jaehwan from confronting Big Brother, Sirwen sides with Runald and Kim Yoonhwan even though his success may destroy their world. The System does fall, but its inhabitants survive in a mortal New World. Sirwen becomes the world's last remaining Master, watches Chunghuh, Karlton, Yu Seolha, Runald, and other companions age and die, and searches for Jaehwan for centuries. Finding the broken Solitary Unbowed in a surviving Root leads her to theorize that the Phantasmal Tree was circular and that the First Nightmare lay where Root and Branch met, but the Dream Demon establishment rejects her attempt to rebuild the passage. (Chapters 237, 244, and 262)
Sirwen eventually carves the Root into a final Tower that reproduces the Phantasmal Tree, the New World, and the First Nightmare for one person. It cannot cultivate Products and has no commercial value; it is an act of memory, research, and longing. Exhausted, she falls asleep before completing it, but a Stab-like fissure opens inside and fills the workshop with warm light, convincing her that the sleep is not an ending. Jaehwan's later revision writes Sirwen back into his account, while a girl in the revised world merely resembles her expression; the text does not identify that girl as Sirwen herself. (Chapters 262, 264, and 265)
Appearance and personality
Sirwen is a slender, humanlike Dream Demon with small horns and a beauty described as overwhelming even among the gods of the Abyss. At her introduction she wears a black tank top and hot pants, and her innate Flame of Enchantment contributes to the attention that makes her a popular broadcaster. In the New World she appears at her exhibition in a flowing dress, still physically young while her human and Celestial companions have aged. (Chapters 64, 67, 209, and 262)
She is proud, profane, curious, and acutely aware of her reputation. Her early pursuit of stimulation can make her seem capricious, but shame over her Towers and horror at Squeeze show firm moral boundaries beneath the boredom. She struggles to name her attachment to Jaehwan and sometimes hides it behind mockery, yet turns that feeling into years of practical work. Her defining later quality is memory: after everyone else dies or forgets, she continues telling their story, researching the vanished Tree, and refusing to treat their world as a dream. (Chapters 67, 71–72, 82–85, 209, and 262)
Powers and limitations
Sirwen's capabilities combine innate Dream Demon traits with learned magic, private spatial tools, and crafted technology. Her true body is explicitly not exceptional in direct combat, so her importance comes from mental energy, mobility, technical knowledge, and preparation. By the late war her construction of multiple Gigantes places her near the rank of Master, and in the New World she is called the last remaining Master. (Chapters 64, 67, 218, 228, and 262)
Dream Demon nature and magic
Dream Demons are rare, extremely long-lived beings with high mental energy and innate magic that can impose imagined forms on reality. Sirwen turns stone into enormous sand serpents, manipulates gravity, and moves buildings and debris against Jaehwan. Her Reverse Gravity can pin a target's feet by changing the force acting on them, but raw World Power can overcome it; Barcant breaks free immediately and wounds her before she can evade. The corpus demonstrates these applications without defining a precise fuel, range, or complete catalog for her general magic. (Chapters 67–68 and 218)
Longevity is not simple immunity to time. After roughly two thousand years Sirwen experiences the Dream Demons' Suicide Period, a dangerous numbness in which ordinary sensations lose their meaning and death can seem like the only remaining stimulation. Jaehwan's unprecedented Stab temporarily interrupts that condition. After the System's collapse, she continues living for centuries and ages far more slowly than humans, but the narrative does not state that she has become immortal; indeed, aging and death have returned to every existence in the New World. (Chapters 64, 67, and 262)
Eight Gates of Hell and Squeeze
Eight Gates of Hell is Mulack's illusion, not Sirwen's own invention. Her large reserve of mental energy strengthens it, and the spell selects a vulnerable mind before forcing the target through layered Hells. The seventh, Hell of Self, produces alternate selves in proportion to how long the victim has lived, making it particularly dangerous to an Awakened One still in Selflessness. Its central limitation is mental comparison: if the target's mental energy exceeds the caster's, the technique rebounds its damage. Jaehwan breaks it in this way, rendering Sirwen unconscious while he reaches the reward space beyond the final gate. (Chapters 68–70)
Squeeze is a Dream Demon technique that links souls with tentacle-like extensions and extracts compressed memories, emotions, and realizations. It can uncover information inaccessible through ordinary questioning, but the connection exposes both participants to extreme pain and psychological contamination. Against Jaehwan, the quantity of memory overwhelms Sirwen and draws her into his Uncanny; she risks permanent aftereffects, entrapment, and losing herself in the attraction of another soul's experiences. Her refusal to use it during her previous two thousand years makes this a reluctant investigative act, not a routine combat power. (Chapters 82–85)
Warp and the Personal Workshop
Warp is innate Dream Demon magic that moves Sirwen and nearby allies to places she remembers. It is effective for battlefield extraction—she saves Jaehwan and Chunghuh from a Field Commander's blast—but has limits on distance and the number of passengers. For longer journeys she uses the Warp Drive in her Personal Workshop, the pocket dimension possessed by every Dream Demon. Opening that space also reveals private work and memories embedded in it, which makes its use personally exposing rather than a neutral transport procedure. (Chapters 70–72 and 74)
Neither form replaces conventional navigation. The long passage into the Abyss separates the expedition, and Destruction remains necessary for movement between Sites and evasive flight. Sirwen's effectiveness therefore comes from combining short-range magical rescue, a private long-distance mechanism, and engineered transport rather than from an unrestricted ability to appear anywhere. The source does not specify an exact numerical range for Warp or the Warp Drive. (Chapters 70, 72, 98, and 102–104)
Craftsmanship, research, and remote machines
Sirwen is already a Master Craftsman when introduced. Her established work includes completing Wraithstone research, making Black Cloud, designing Towers, and producing Nether Ghost Envoys under Geumcheon Hall's orders. Those envoys are Forgotten Ones whose Spiritual Pressure rises by one or two stages and who retain more mind and power than ordinary specimens. The story does not state that Black Cloud itself manufactures them, so the poison-like anti-Forgotten-One weapon and the envoys remain separate projects. (Chapters 29, 40, 64–65, and 71–72)
In the Abyss she helps construct Destruction to counter Nebula airships, operates its sensors and controls, and later creates several Gigantes. She can control those machines remotely and coordinate them as a formation, allowing her to protect Runald and fight multiple Awakened Ones without placing her comparatively weak true body at the center of the battle. The control is strenuous rather than automatic: sustained operation makes her bleed around the eyes, and an enemy powerful enough to seize a Gigantes can turn its amplification against her allies. (Chapters 124, 133, 195, 209, and 228–230)
Her final New World research extends Tower-making beyond cultivation. From a surviving Root and centuries of study, she develops the circular-Tree hypothesis and carves a non-cultivating Tower intended as a passage and memorial for Jaehwan. The resulting fissure suggests that the work connects worlds, but Sirwen is asleep when it opens and the corpus does not provide a technical explanation or confirm the route's limits. Its latest demonstrated state is therefore an active, luminous connection rather than a completed, reproducible transport system. (Chapter 262)
Relationships
- Jaehwan: Jaehwan first offers Sirwen relief from the numbness of her Suicide Period and a possible lead to Mulack. Squeeze shows her his loneliness, and her curiosity develops into years of engineering, searching, and remembrance. Her final Tower is made for him alone.
- Mulack Armelt: Mulack finds Sirwen's Egg, raises her as his goddaughter, and shapes her Soul-Centrism and craft. Her use of Eight Gates of Hell and pursuit of the Record continue his work, though she opposes the restored cultivation he later defends.
- Chunghuh: Sirwen and Chunghuh trade constant insults but repeatedly save and support one another. They continue the Abyss Expedition together, build their power as Guides of Destruction, and remain companions until his death in the New World.
- Karlton: Karlton accompanies Sirwen through the separated expedition, the thefts from the Seven Divine Thrones, and the search aboard Destruction. His eventual death is one of the losses she alone continues to remember.
- Runald: Sirwen protects Runald in battle and later becomes his “big sis.” She remains beside him as he grows old, listens to his fear of death, and accepts his request to keep telling their story after everyone else forgets.
- Kim Yoonhwan: Sirwen joins Yoonhwan and Runald in defending Jaehwan's choice to confront Big Brother. Their shared decision accepts the possible destruction of the existing world rather than denying him the freedom to act.
