Minerva — The World After the Fall

Minerva is a high-grade God of Fate who runs the 《Monthly Fortune Store》 and travels through the Metaverse under the identity Rene. Minerva reads a Great Fate predicting the Abyss's destruction, quietly protects Jaehwan, and chooses to struggle for a better outcome despite believing that destruction cannot be avoided.

Biography

The Metaverse and its gods

Before appearing directly, Minerva is known through commercial fortune services, advice for novice gods, and an affiliated card shop whose reading sends Andersen and Runald to the Blue Grove. Within the Metaverse, Minerva uses the Rene identity, recognizes immediately that Jaehwan is not a novice, and intends to use his strength while seeking to become the Tower's Driver. She has already read a Great Fate in which the Abyss will be destroyed if the Metaverse collapses, but does not openly reveal that prediction before Jaehwan destroys it because she believes disclosure would not have changed his choice. After revealing the Rene persona's true name, Minerva explains that the corruption of gods, Followers, and Cultivators has left the Abyss without genuine hope. Even so, the people restored by the Metaverse's fall persuade her that destruction may take different forms and that resistance still matters. She discloses that she placed 「Fate's Protection」 on Jaehwan from the First Floor, then leaves with Martis to investigate other Metaverses and seek allies. When stronger enemies later threaten Jaehwan, Minerva returns with the Gods of Tomorrow, saying that they cannot watch the world they defended fall a second time. (Chapters 176–177 and 194)

Minerva later joins the Committee members who try to prevent Jaehwan from departing alone to confront 《Big Brother》. Her prophetic ability cannot explain the year-long winter caused by unstable World Power, showing that even the God of Fate cannot read every anomaly. Minerva ultimately witnesses the others accept Jaehwan's decision and remains among the companions he remembers before the final journey. (Chapters 237–238)

Appearance and personality

Minerva's direct present-day appearance is mediated through the Rene identity; the supplied chapters in this article's evidence set do not establish a separate divine body or fixed visual form for the God of Fate. During the identity reveal, Minerva drinks tea, taps a cup while speaking, and has a damaged broadcasting drone near one shoulder. The shift in speech and manner makes the familiar persona feel different even though the visible body remains the same. (Chapter 176)

Minerva is calculating, guarded, and pessimistic without being passive. She conceals identity and prophecy, treats intervention as a gamble or insurance policy, and can appear cheerfully teasing even while discussing the end of the world. Experience with Fate leads her to doubt that individuals can reform the Abyss, but the restored Followers and friendships formed in the Tower move her toward collective resistance. Her unreadable smile at Jaehwan's farewell preserves the ambiguity between acceptance, concern, and knowledge she does not voice. (Chapters 176–177 and 237)

Powers and limitations

Reading Fate

Minerva reads Fates ranging from personal outcomes to the decline of groups and a Great Fate concerning the destruction of the Abyss. She also operates commercial readings through the 《Monthly Fortune Store》 and affiliated shops. The predictions are not complete control over events: the Metaverse prophecy gives an activation condition rather than a preventable schedule, Minerva believes warning the others would not change Jaehwan's choice, and she later cannot predict the prolonged winter anomaly. The text therefore presents Fate as information that guides decisions, not infallible knowledge of every cause and outcome. (Chapters 101, 176–177, and 237)

Fate's Protection

「Fate's Protection」 is a subtle Setting Minerva places on Jaehwan from the Metaverse's First Floor. It is difficult even for 「Doubt」 to detect and helps its subject survive injuries that should otherwise be fatal. Maintaining such a concealed effect requires substantial World Power and may explain why Minerva displays limited direct combat power while using the Rene persona. The protection does not make Jaehwan immortal: Minerva explicitly says it will not work against the Seven Divine Thrones or Twelve Great Lords. (Chapter 177)

Relationships

Jaehwan: Minerva initially treats Jaehwan as an instrument in a plan to take the Metaverse, but protects him from the beginning and later fights beside him. She opposes destruction while betting that his path may produce a form the Abyss can survive.
Rene: Rene is Minerva's concealed traveling and broadcasting identity within the Metaverse. The persona lets Minerva observe Jaehwan closely before disclosing the high-grade god behind it.
Martis: Martis travels with Minerva after the Metaverse falls and returns alongside the Gods of Tomorrow to defend Jaehwan. Both later join the Committee's attempt to stop his solitary departure.
Andersen: Andersen knows Minerva's identity before the public reveal and resents her fortune business, but challenges Minerva's fatalism and helps focus attention on the lives restored after the Tower's destruction.
