Kanghun

Kanghun is a Red Fox Clan executive and hunting-party leader who preys on inexperienced travelers in 《Chaos》. His attempt to rob Mino and Jaehwan exposes both the clan's predatory methods and the limits of the numerical power system on which he relies.

Biography

Arrival in Chaos and Gorgon

Kanghun leads four Red Fox hunters against horned beasts while secretly planning to rob Mino, the lone outsider in their party. He is the group's only first-stage Adapter and coordinates the others effectively, but greed makes him dismiss warning signs about Mino's identity. When her deliberate mistakes draw increasingly dangerous monsters into the fight, Kanghun spends much of his spiritual power sustaining 「Breath of the Fire King」. Jaehwan then kills the Two-Horned Beast threatening the exhausted party and gives them its corpse, leaving Kanghun delighted by a reward he did not earn. (Chapter 12)

After seeing Jaehwan's abnormally low measured spiritual power, Kanghun concludes that Jaehwan's black sword—not Jaehwan himself—must have produced the killing blow. He sends a 「Messenger Hawk」 to summon reinforcements, arranges an unnecessary overnight camp, and steals the weapon while treating Jaehwan's unfamiliarity with 《Chaos》 as proof that he is easy prey. The same calculation turns against Mino: she kills three clan members, reveals herself as the Witch of Massacre, and explains that she accepted a commission connected to Red Fox's practice of hunting vulnerable Non-Adapters. Kanghun survives her initial attack only because the reinforcements he summoned arrive. (Chapters 13–15)

Kanghun refuses Clan Master Klant's order to withdraw after Jaehwan overwhelms Red Fox's assembled forces. Convinced that the stolen sword is a spirit weapon capable of overcoming any difference in ability, he charges and uses his sure-kill Skill, but Jaehwan catches the skill-covered blade by hand. Kanghun cannot reconcile that defeat with Jaehwan's spiritual-power value because his own progress has been built around Skills and measurable stats. Jaehwan takes back the sword, demonstrates the true force of Stab against the fleeing clan, and kills Kanghun along with the remaining pursuers. (Chapter 16)

Appearance and personality

The supplied chapters do not give Kanghun a detailed physical description. He wears leather armor during the hunt and carries a sword, later replacing it with the weapon stolen from Jaehwan. His expressions move readily from hearty satisfaction to concealed anger, greedy delight, and finally despair when his assumptions fail. (Chapters 12, 14, and 16)

Kanghun is an experienced coordinator but a predatory and status-conscious judge of others. He takes pride in Red Fox's strength, targets people he believes lack protection, and interprets power almost entirely through Adaptation stages, spiritual-power readings, Skills, and valuable equipment. He can recognize danger—he realizes Mino's identity before she confirms it—but greed and wounded pride repeatedly override that judgment. His refusal to retreat from Jaehwan becomes the final consequence of that rigidity. (Chapters 12 and 14–16)

Powers and limitations

Adaptation and swordsmanship

Kanghun is a first-stage Adapter nearing the end of that stage. He can fight roughly two One-Horned Beasts alone and leads a coordinated five-person hunting formation, but three beasts exceed his comfortable capacity and prolonged combat drains his spiritual power. His training and statistics make him formidable within Red Fox's local scale, yet they provide no answer to Jaehwan's Awakening-derived strength, which is not represented by the measurement Kanghun trusts. Skills

「Breath of the Fire King」 is an intermediate Skill obtained by Red Fox's clan master from Fire King Hall. It kindles a faint flame on Kanghun's sword and doubles his combat power, allowing a first-stage Adapter who cannot yet imbue a blade with spiritual power to fight beyond ordinary limits. Its heavy spiritual-power consumption leaves him dizzy after sustained use. 「Messenger Hawk」 forms a hawk from spiritual power and carries his report to the clan, but the text does not define its range or speed. Kanghun also uses an unnamed sure-kill sword Skill against Jaehwan; it fails completely against the gap between them. (Chapters 12–13 and 16)

Relationships

• Jaehwan: Kanghun initially accepts Jaehwan's help, then mistakes his low spiritual-power reading for weakness and steals his sword. Jaehwan's effortless defeat of Kanghun demonstrates why that measurement is inadequate.
• Mino: Kanghun intends to rob and exploit Mino, unaware that she has infiltrated his party to punish Red Fox's attacks on Non-Adapters. She kills his companions and exposes the consequences of the clan's predation.
• Klant: Kanghun serves the Red Fox Clan master and summons him as reinforcement, but rejects Klant's order to retreat when Jaehwan proves overwhelmingly stronger.

Items

• Solitary Unbowed: Kanghun steals Jaehwan's black sword after assuming it is a spirit weapon responsible for Jaehwan's attack. The weapon cannot compensate for Kanghun's lack of skill, and Jaehwan takes it back before killing him.
