Imai Kazuki

Imai Kazuki is Rift's Third Division Commander and a veteran Awakened swordsman whose loyalty to the organization survives both his private doubts and the destruction of his borrowed Unique World. His long attachment to Yu Seolha turns Rift's civil conflict into a personal duel, while his final refusal to abandon his history gives that loyalty a fatal conclusion.

Biography

Arrival in Chaos and Gorgon to Only One World

Imai enters the Metaverse beside Yu Seolha while she searches for Jin Eunsae and Jaehwan. Although his rank makes the local gods fear him, he behaves casually, eats with Jaehwan's group, and later guards Jaehwan during three days of training. When the group climbs the Alliance palace, Imai holds off Shiyu so Jaehwan can continue and anxiously asks him to bring Seolha back alive. These actions make him a temporary ally, but they are undertaken as a Rift commander rather than as a convert to Jaehwan's cause. (Chapters 144, 156, 159, and 162)

Back at Rift, Imai defends the Great Disappearance Simulation as the only proper way to create true Awakened Ones, rejecting safer recruitment because it does not reliably produce Rift's shared Unique World. After Seolha defects, he assumes more reporting duties and joins the alliance with the Great Lords. At the Seventh Site he confronts Seolha, presses her to explain why she left, and fights with the hurt of a longtime Companion who trusted her more than the other commanders. Blade Nuri initially gives him the advantage, but the wider battle ends with Jaehwan destroying his Unique World and taking him captive. (Chapters 202, 207–208, and 215–223)

Jaehwan releases Imai and explains that he could regain strength by creating a Unique World of his own. Imai briefly understands the offer and recognizes that Rift may be wrong, but refuses to erase the world that has been his path and history. He drives his broken katana into his own heart rather than leave Rift, tells Seolha he will remain in his world, and dies as his soul form disperses into silver particles. Kasim later asks how he met his end, and Chunghuh calls it fitting for him, though honorable only from Rift's perspective. (Chapters 223 and 227)

Appearance and personality

Imai is a short, outwardly unimpressive man who carries a katana longer than his height. By the end of the Seventh Site battle, dust covers him, his beard hangs crookedly, and Blade Nuri is broken, visually mirroring the loss of his World Power and pride. (Chapters 144, 207, and 223)

He is proud, blunt, informal, and conservative even within Rift. Formal reports make him stumble over his words, while ordinary conversation brings out a sociable appetite and dry humor. His severity toward recruits and defense of the lethal simulations coexist with genuine concern for Seolha and a belief that Rift is working toward a better world. He can admit that the organization may be wrong, but cannot accept that beginning again would be anything other than betrayal of the self he built there. (Chapters 156, 162, 202, 207, 218, and 223)

Powers and limitations

Swordsmanship and Blood Flowers

Called the Formless Swordmaster, Imai is one of the few fighters able to rival Seolha and is rumored to be the strongest of the three Division Commanders present at Rift's negotiations. His katana draws irregular curves, and his speed lets him repel multiple Clockmakers and exchange a blow with Shiyu powerful enough to shake the palace staircase. Blood-scented flowers bloom around his blade when he gathers power; Jaehwan judges that effect likely to be Imai's primary Setting, but the cited chapters neither confirm the inference nor explain its mechanics. Mountain of Corpses, Sea of Blood

Like other established Rift Awakened Ones, Imai uses Mountain of Corpses, Sea of Blood rather than a wholly personal Unique World. It supplies formidable World Power and supports his commander-level swordsmanship, but its shared origin is also a decisive vulnerability: Jaehwan's Destruction eradicates the world completely. Left with only a feeble aura and no usable World Power, Imai is told he could recover only by obtaining another Unique World, a possibility he refuses to pursue. (Chapters 202, 218, and 223)

Blade Nuri

Blade Nuri can alter the shape of its blade at will. It broadens into a defensive surface, stretches or contracts to attack at irregular timing, and counters the phantom feints of Seolha's Thunder Goblin before either fighter fully opens a Unique World. The weapon is ultimately broken during Imai's defeat; without World Power, he can still project enough presence to alarm nearby fighters, but no longer has the strength he wielded as a commander. • Yu Seolha: Imai is Seolha's longtime Companion and holds unreturned special feelings for her. Her departure wounds him personally, and their duel exposes the trust beneath their political opposition. She witnesses his suicide and mourns him despite their incompatible natures. • Jaehwan: Imai first helps and guards Jaehwan in the Metaverse, then opposes him as a Rift commander. Jaehwan destroys his shared world but offers him a chance to build another; Imai rejects that mercy because it requires leaving Rift. (Chapters 156–162, 217–219, and 223)
• Maiad van Declan: Maiad is Imai's commander. Imai reports directly to them, recruits and evaluates new members on Rift's behalf, and ultimately chooses the history made under their organization over an independent future. (Chapters 192, 202, 207, and 223)
