Han Seoyul

Han Seoyul is one of Jaehwan's original companions from World 294. Her death in the Tower, memory-restored recruitment into Rift, and later encounter with the friend she believed dead connect the first climb to Jaehwan's late conflict with Only One World; Revision reimagines that bond in an ordinary publishing life.

Biography

The Last Walker and the Broken Tower to Arrival in Chaos and Gorgon

Seoyul climbs the Tower of Nightmares with Jaehwan and Kim Yoonhwan, becoming one of the Companions whose trust defines Jaehwan's early life. She gives him the Fire King's Bracelet and dies under a Death Knight's attack before reaching the seventy-seventh floor. Jaehwan continues carrying both the bracelet and the memory of losing her, while later encounters in Chaos remind him of habits formed when the three first met. Her death is genuine within the Tower, but it does not extinguish her soul; much later, the story reveals that defeated climbers can enter the Abyss after losing their Tower memories. The Metaverse and Its Gods to Only One World

Jaehwan repeatedly remembers Seoyul among the Companions of Carpe Diem while crossing the Metaverse, believing that she and Yoonhwan are dead and that he alone preserves the complete tutorial history. In the Abyss, however, Seoyul has been recruited into Rift. Its Memory Restoration Chamber returns her Tower experiences and supplies the hatred of cultivation used to begin Forced Awakening. She undergoes 520 Great Disappearance Simulations, completes 518, accepts Mountain of Corpses, Sea of Blood, and becomes the strongest newcomer and commander of Rift's Fourth Battalion. The power comes with a worldview of despair: she concludes that justice without power and ideals without hope cannot accomplish the impossible. Rift assigns Seoyul to stop Yoonhwan after he defects. She understands that Rift's course is wrong but insists they return because resistance appears as futile as clearing the Tower. She overwhelms him with swordsmanship and greater World Power, invoking the hundreds of simulations in which they killed one another to reject his claim to moral innocence. Jaehwan's arrival breaks that certainty. Learning that he did not clear the Tower but destroyed it forces her to confront the possibility that the “impossible” continued beyond the point where she surrendered. He destroys her copy of Mountain of Corpses, Sea of Blood and tells her she has suffered enough, leaving her alive but emotionally collapsed and still unrecovered a year later. The First Nightmare and Revision

Revision restores Seoyul to World 294 without conscious memory of the Phantasmal Tree. She meets Jaehwan and Yoonhwan again in high school, recognizes her name and personality in Jaehwan's prizewinning tower story, and becomes his ordinary friend. Years later she joins Jaehwan's publishing team, where a department head targets her with belittling comments and sexualized suggestions. Jaehwan objects, and both ultimately leave the company. The confrontation echoes his earlier defense of her without granting Seoyul any supernatural awareness of that history. (Chapters 253, 255–260)

When Jaehwan reawakens his Unique World inside the First Nightmare, Seoyul and Yoonhwan feel shame and recognition they cannot fully explain and run toward him. They later establish a publishing management company, and Seoyul handles the message offering to finance a revised edition of Jaehwan's novel. She approaches the proposal cautiously, argues over its risks, and becomes part of the practical process that lets Jaehwan revise The World After the Fall. The Revision-era Seoyul is therefore neither the Rift commander mechanically restored nor a stranger with the same face; she is the ordinary-world counterpart through whom the relationship gains another possible history. Appearance and personality

Seoyul is described as exceptionally beautiful, with sharp, aloof features and a captivatingly blank expression after joining Rift. Cold killing intent in her eyes makes even Yu Seolha remark that she can manage herself. When Jaehwan finds her after the pursuit of Yoonhwan, that composure gives way to disbelief, despair, and an inability to meet the gaze of the friend she once loved most. In the Tower and Revision she is more direct and familiar, often restraining or scolding Yoonhwan and approaching Jaehwan before he approaches others. Rift turns her pragmatism into fatalism. She knows the organization is wrong but believes power and compromise are the only meaningful answers after repeated failure. Revision preserves her caution and bluntness without the simulations' cruelty: she works hard, leaves an abusive workplace, and treats the revised-edition offer as a decision requiring evidence rather than blind hope. Powers and limitations

Tower combat

Seoyul survives to the seventy-sixth floor of the Tower of Nightmares and fights alongside Jaehwan and Yoonhwan for years. She uses a sword and possesses equipment valuable enough to leave Jaehwan the Fire King's Bracelet. The early chapters do not provide a full Skill list or numerical status, and her death to a Death Knight establishes the limit of that Walker-era strength. Later Rift abilities should not be projected backward onto this version of her. (Chapters 2–3 and 216)

Forced Awakening

Rift restores Seoyul's erased Tower memories to create anger against cultivation and then subjects her to the Great Disappearance Simulation. Completing 518 of 520 iterations makes her the strongest among the new recruits and raises her to battalion command. The process is effective but psychologically destructive: it normalizes killing familiar people, turns shared memories into evidence that everyone is compromised, and leaves Seoyul unable to imagine a path outside Rift even after she recognizes its wrongdoing. Mountain of Corpses, Sea of Blood

Seoyul wields Rift's shared Unique World, Mountain of Corpses, Sea of Blood. It produces crimson World Power, a rain of blood, and sword force strong enough to overpower Yoonhwan's version of the same world. Its strength reflects her superior simulation performance and developed World Power, not a wholly personal Setting. Jaehwan's Destruction can sever it from her, after which the world oxidizes into gray ash and the emotions it suppressed return. (Chapters 208 and 216–217)

Revision-era state

The Seoyul of Revision displays no Adapter status, Awakening, Settings, or retained sword techniques. Her strengths are ordinary persistence, professional judgment, and her close working relationships with Jaehwan and Yoonhwan. Fleeting recognition during Jaehwan's reawakening does not establish recovered Rift powers or conscious access to her previous life. (Chapters 253 and 258–264)

Power progression

Relationships

• Jaehwan: Seoyul is an original Companion and the woman Jaehwan once loved most. His impossible survival exposes the despair beneath her Rift loyalty, and his Destruction frees her from its shared world. Revision lets them meet again as friends and publishing colleagues.
• Kim Yoonhwan: Yoonhwan climbs beside Seoyul, restores his memories alongside her, and later defects from Rift. Their pursuit duel forces both to confront what they did inside the simulations. In Revision they remain close friends and become publishing partners.
• Kasim: Kasim introduces Seoyul as a new Rift recruit and helps oversee the memory-restoration and Awakening process that elevates her into command.
• Yu Seolha: Yu Seolha first meets Seoyul as a recruit and immediately recognizes the killing intent beneath her blank expression. Both later hold command roles in Rift, though Yu Seolha abandons Maiad's direction before Seoyul does.
