Severus
Severus Maximus, known as the Needle Assassin, is a dangerous restrained killer recruited by Rodova Military Academy to teach practical assassination and poison work. His value as an instructor coexists with security measures that treat him as an active threat.
Biography
Teaching from chains and preparing an exit
Rodova places Severus before students in reinforced shackles, enchanted leg chains, and constant guard because it wants his lethal expertise without trusting his conduct. Severus rejects ordinary stabbing as crude butchery and teaches assassination as planning, concealment, and precise application. Leo Skyshard finds these direct lessons unusually valuable and seeks Severus outside class, creating the opportunity for the instructor to pass him a poison formula. (Chapters 80 and 106–107)
An academy security crisis immediately follows the private exchange, and Leo concludes that Severus timed the gift, ink substitution, and relaxed behavior around a planned escape. The text frames that conclusion as Leo's inference rather than showing Severus free, captured, or dead. The formula later earns a high valuation and supports Leo financially, preserving Severus's technical influence even though his personal fate after the alarm remains unresolved. (Chapters 107–108 and 268–269)
Appearance and personality
Severus is shown in heavy restraints with dangerous delight in his eyes, an unsettling grin, and a shrill, wheezing laugh. No stable hair, eye-color, or build description is given. He is theatrical, mocking, openly fascinated by lethal craft, contemptuous of basic technique, and calculated enough that Leo suspects apparently playful gestures conceal an escape plan. (Chapters 80 and 106–108)
Abilities and power progression
- Severus is infamous as the Needle Assassin and teaches practical assassination, stealth, and poison concoction. The corpus does not show him fighting directly or state his cultivation rank, so the title cannot support a specific tier or complete technique list. (Chapters 80 and 106)
- His poison formula is valuable enough to receive a high commercial rating and generate expected passive income for Leo. The selected evidence does not document its ingredients, delivery mechanism, symptoms, antidote, or an observed poisoning, so those mechanics remain unknown. (Chapters 107 and 268–269)
- Reinforced restraints and two high-ranking guards demonstrate how dangerous Rodova considers him, but they do not prove he can break those measures. The suspected escape is not directly resolved, and no later progression is established. (Chapters 80 and 108)
Relationships
- Leo Skyshard is Severus's most engaged student and the recipient of his poison formula. Leo admires the instruction while refusing to involve himself in the suspected escape. (Chapters 106–108 and 268–269)
- Rodova Military Academy simultaneously employs and confines Severus, making the institution both patron and jailer. (Chapters 80 and 107–108)
Items
Severus is associated with reinforced shackles, enchanted chains, and a valuable poison formula given to Leo. The restraints belong to Rodova's security system, while the formula's later copy is monetized by Leo; no personal needle weapon is directly documented despite Severus's title. (Chapters 80, 107–108, and 268–269)
