Biography

A failed succession bet and diminished office

The Elder first helps tip a Council vote and later argues that Leo's recovered scroll knowledge should be extracted and given to Veyr, reframing the succession dispute to favor the candidate on whom his faction's careers depend. Soron's decision to settle the issue through a public duel horrifies him because a Leo victory would destroy that political calculation. His fear proves justified: Leo's performance overturns the expected hierarchy, and the Elder subsequently loses all but one electoral territory and is demoted from Seventh to Tenth. Decades later he joins other dispossessed councilors hoping Soron's return will unseat Leo, but public loyalty to Leo defeats the effort; he acknowledges that the old Council no longer represents the Cult.
