Orion
Orion is Nature Academy's Grandmaster elemental mage, distinguished by exceptional mana reserves and command of all four basic elements.
Biography
Overwhelming reserves meet tournament attrition
Orion's earlier Circuits performance establishes him as a wide-area battle-mage who can defeat a mobile aerial opponent by layering defense, bombardment, and lightning. In the quarterfinal against Rodova, Nature relies on that same capacity to break Minerva and anchor its stalling strategy. Orion wins their high-output exchange with Primal Judgment, but spends most of his mana doing so. Forced back into the arena before recovering, he still attempts fire, earth, wind, and water counters against Yu Shen; depleted spells and lack of setup time leave him unable to stop the captain's close-range pressure. His defeat ends Nature's resistance, while later reference to Minerva's injury confirms the damage he inflicted without establishing any subsequent career. (Chapters 111, 189–191, 202)
Appearance and personality
Orion is an elf who wears layered robes threaded with visible mana veins. He enters combat calmly and initially controls the field with minimal movement, but returns against Yu Shen tense, sweating, and still short of mana. His decision to fight anyway shows competitive resolve, though the corpus provides little personal dialogue beyond his readiness to continue. (Chapters 189–191)
Abilities and power progression
Orion manipulates fire, water, wind, and earth in combination. His defenses include Firestorm Barrier, Water Wall, Wind Wall, Stone Wall, and a passive mana barrier; Flaming Orbs, Meteor Crash, chain lightning, vines, and Elemental Spiral control range and terrain. Jet Geyser uses compressed air for evasion, while Primal Judgment condenses the four elements into a finishing lance. His large reserve sustains complex fields, but the finisher severely depletes it: with less than half capacity, his constructs shrink or crack and fast melee pressure prevents setup. No progression beyond Grandmaster is shown. (Chapters 111, 189–191)
Relationships
- Minerva: Orion defeats Minerva by overpowering Piercing Moonlight with Primal Judgment, but the victory drains most of his mana. (Chapter 189)
- Yu Shen: Yu Shen exploits Orion's depleted state, bypasses layered elemental defenses, and defeats him at close range. (Chapter 191)
- Derek: Derek calls Orion's quarterfinal performance and emphasizes how badly attrition has shifted the matchup. (Chapters 189–191)
Items
Orion's layered robes contain embedded mana veins, but the corpus does not specify whether they amplify, store, or merely conduct mana. No named wand, staff, or other weapon is shown. (Chapter 189)
