Du Trask
Du Trask is the Du Clan's God, an impatient advocate of Great Clan independence whose shifting alliances repeatedly place self-preservation above durable loyalty.
Biography
Independence, betrayal, and disappearance
Chafing at two millennia of subordination, Du Trask presses the Great Clans to leave the Universal Government, arguing that the Cult threat is being used to keep them dependent. At the All Gods Summit he secretly changes sides against Su Ren, collapsing the clans' balance and enabling the attack that kills Su Ren. Later fear of Soron, Mauriss, and Moltherak keeps pushing him into temporary coalitions rather than stable commitments. (Chapters 554, 588–590, 795, 861, and 959–985)
During the final conflict, Du Trask joins the New Age Alliance's attack but abandons the battlefield once Clarence dies and Leo Skyshard turns the balance. He and Lu Han split into separate fourth-dimensional escapes; Leo pursues Lu Han, leaving Du Trask free. Du Trask then disappears so completely that Caleb and Mairon spend centuries searching without finding him, making fugitive survival—not victory—his latest established outcome. (Chapters 1161–1198)
Appearance and personality
Du Trask is shown sprawling in his seat, smirking, drumming his fingers, and openly displaying boredom or contempt. His casual posture disappears under threat, revealing a calculating but anxious survivor whose commitments change when the balance of power does. No detailed facial or clothing description is supplied. (Chapters 588–590, 988, and 1194)
Abilities and power progression
- As a God, Du Trask has divine aura, fourth-dimensional travel, and reality-level command: a whispered order makes Helmuth's chain vanish. The exact law or mechanism behind that effect is not named. (Chapter 590)
- He fights with a blade and can coordinate against other Gods, including Mauriss. The evidence shows him participating in divine battles but does not isolate a named offensive technique or demonstrate that he can defeat a peer alone. (Chapters 1040 and 1047–1049)
- His escape through a fourth-dimensional tunnel succeeds because Leo chooses to chase Lu Han instead. This is a demonstrated mobility application, not proof that Du Trask could outrun Leo if directly pursued. (Chapters 1194 and 1198)
Power progression
| Stage / Realm / Ability | Chapter(s) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| God Realm | By 554 | Du Trask is already the ancient God of the Du Clan when the Great Clan Gods convene; his path through the lower realms is not narrated. |
Relationships
- Su Ren is the alliance leader Du Trask betrays at the summit, making Du Trask materially responsible for the collapse that exposes him to Kaelith. (Chapter 590)
- Mu Shen, Lu Han, Ru Vassa, and Yu Kiro are recurring Great Clan partners, although Du Trask's history makes that cooperation contingent. (Chapters 554, 588–590, and 1031–1049)
- Leo Skyshard becomes the pursuer whose victory forces Du Trask into permanent hiding. (Chapters 1184–1198)
Items
Du Trask draws and fights with a blade, but the corpus gives it no name or special properties. No other notable personal item is established. (Chapters 1040 and 1047–1048)
