Clarence
Clarence is a sanctioned Demi-God who serves the Universal Government before transferring his loyalty to Mauriss after that regime falls.
Biography
Service, realignment, and a fatal humiliation
Clarence accepts the Universal Government's bloodline hierarchy without expecting equal standing and performs his assigned role in the Chakravyuh, activating and sustaining the prison around Soron. The formation's pressure eventually incapacitates him, and after the government's collapse he and Terrence align with Mauriss. Acting as Mauriss's enforcers, they later attack Leo Skyshard on Granada and force him to escape rather than win. (Chapters 899, 944–997, and 1043–1050)
When Clarence restrains Mairon Skyshard to deliver Mauriss's summons, he mocks the Monarch as far weaker than his father. That humiliation creates a personal enemy. In the Final War, Mauriss's own formation immobilizes Clarence; Mairon exploits the opening with Temporal Shift and cuts him in half. Clarence dies blaming both men, so the same reliance on Mauriss that preserved his position also supplies the condition for his defeat. (Chapters 1166–1169 and 1184–1194)
Appearance and personality
No stable physical description is supplied beyond Clarence's hooded approach when meeting Mairon and his use of a sword. He is controlled and pragmatic under hierarchy, but becomes condescending when he holds an obvious power advantage; that arrogance turns a routine message into a lasting personal vendetta. (Chapters 899 and 1166)
Abilities and power progression
- Clarence is a Demi-God with strength sufficient to restrain Mairon one-handed and attack at speeds that make Leo prioritize survival. Demi-Godhood does not make him invulnerable: formation strain can render him unconscious or immobilize him. (Chapters 944–957, 1045, and 1166)
- His sword techniques manipulate oceanic pressure and storm flow. Tidal Cleave carries a massive compressed-water arc, Maelstrom Drive draws wind and rain into a cyclone around the blade, and Riptide Sever launches a neck-level pressure wave. Leo counters through superior movement and a portal rather than blocking them directly. (Chapter 1045)
- Clarence helps operate Chakravyuh by feeding divine essence into a node. The formation restricts fourth-dimensional escape but exacts a severe load on its anchors; his final immobilization shows the mechanic can also expose its own users. (Chapters 899, 944–957, and 1194)
Relationships
- Terrence is Clarence's fellow sanctioned Demi-God and regular combat partner. (Chapters 899, 997, and 1043–1049)
- Mauriss becomes his master after the Universal Government falls, using him as guard, messenger, and final-war combatant. (Chapters 997, 1049, 1166–1169, and 1184–1194)
- Mairon Skyshard is first his captive and later his killer. (Chapters 1166 and 1194)
Items
Clarence wields an unnamed sword that channels his pressure- and water-based techniques. No separate named artifact is established. (Chapters 1044–1045 and 1194)
