Blacksmith Trade Skill Core

The Blacksmith Trade Skill Core is the magical foundation of Dominic Wavemates's formal craft. Created and attuned by a master, it supplies appraisal and staged smithing knowledge while advancing through actual work and suitable monster-core investment. It accelerates instruction but does not replace plans, materials, practice, or a master's judgment. (Chapters 2, 7–21, 45–48, 177, and 375)

History

From bargain to apprenticeship

Dominic seeks the core because Cygnia's apprentice system requires a recognized trade. Pops agrees to create one once Dominic supplies monster cores, then attunes him in Chapter 7 as an Apprentice Smith at Level 1. The new core immediately supports analysis and basic craft knowledge, while Pops's lessons teach the parts that cannot be reduced to an embedded skill. (Chapters 2–14)

Crafting and enchantment move the core through the apprentice levels. Dominic reaches Level 2 through his first enchanted work, practices to Level 3 before making Cogwork Plate Armour, and feeds collected cores into the trade core to accelerate later advancement. A tradesman's bracer gives the core a practical socket alongside a growth-rate orb. His rapid progress earns admiration, but the story repeatedly attributes the results to extensive production and instruction as well as magical growth. (Chapters 19–48)

The core begins showing the blue associated with Journeyman rank in Chapter 177 and is explicitly treated as Journeyman by Chapter 452. A later master-level text explains that the knowledge for producing new Trade Skill Cores becomes comprehensible at Master rank. Dominic never receives a confirmed Master promotion in the supplied corpus, so his political rank and industrial influence do not change the core's latest formal classification. (Chapters 177, 375, and 452)

Properties and use

  • Attunement: A qualified master creates the core for a specific trade and attunes it to an apprentice. (Chapters 2 and 7)
  • Embedded knowledge: New techniques and analysis functions become available as its wearer advances, reflecting knowledge chosen by the creating master. (Chapters 7, 14, 19–21, and 177)
  • Growth through work: Forging, repair, enchantment, and production contribute to advancement; suitable monster cores can add experience directly. (Chapters 13, 19, 35, and 45–48)
  • Equipment socketing: Dominic wears the core in a tradesman's bracer so it can remain attuned during work. (Chapter 45)
  • Rank limit: The supplied sequence supports Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master, but does not establish a universal numerical maximum or confirm Dominic beyond Journeyman. (Chapters 177, 375, and 452)
  • Compatibility: The core is a craft specialization rather than a general magic system; its knowledge must still be combined with materials, tools, plans, and personal ability.
