Wiz
Wiz is a farm-raised Crusader, healer, and frontline defender who fights beside his wife, Bella. His strength and durability let their small party protect rural communities, while his willingness to put family ahead of wider campaigns anchors both Aramos and its later Wistover settlement.
Biography
Aramos and the Cygnian War Effort
Wiz joins the first Goblin hunt because the attacks threaten his family's farm, even though his level-seven Holy Stone would normally qualify him for a stronger party. He welcomes Dominic into the household, contributes a Goblin Shaman Core to the repair of his broken sword, and protects the young smith's secret when the resulting magical blade proves unusually valuable. His choices establish both his priorities and his role: he values home and companions over prestige, and he takes responsibility for creating a team that can survive. (Chapters 25–28)
In battle, Wiz leads from the front. He opens attacks with Consecration, checks the party's mana and healing before pressing onward, conducts triage after fights, and physically intercepts enemies threatening farmers and guards. Against a Hobgoblin he drives forward behind shield and sword to throw it away from a civilian; against an Ogre he reaches the beleaguered line despite a crushing hit and immediately heals himself so he can remain useful. When the wider city is threatened, he refuses new patrols until Aramos is safe because his parents and neighbours cannot defend themselves. The decision keeps a capable fighter away from the main battle, but ensures the farms have a tank and healer of their own. (Chapters 29–39)
Founding Wistover
Wiz and Bella's continued residence benefits every farm around Aramos. Dominic later treats the pair as a model for rural defence: two capable adventurers cannot prevent every monster attack, but their presence makes repeated incursions survivable for otherwise vulnerable households. Wiz's contribution is especially important because he can hold enemies in place and restore wounded allies rather than only inflict damage. (Chapter 257)
The Duskblade Sect and Monster Incursions
Wiz relocates with Bella and their family group when Aramos's settlers restart in Wistover. By then the couple are married, but they remain the only adventurers attached to their farming party, preserving their dual obligation to settlement work and defence. Wiz's reunion with Dominic is warm and informal despite Dominic's new title, showing that their early trust survives the change in status. (Chapters 357–359)
During the monster-ritual operations, Wiz again acts as the party's close-range anchor. He accepts scratches without abandoning the route, engages an oversized Frosthound alone when assigned, asks for direction amid rapidly changing fights, and takes up an enormous enchanted blade because its power can clear ranks of Goblins. The weapon's ice wave cuts through Hobgoblins and its edge kills an Ogre Warrior, but using it leaves him breathing hard and forces him to reconsider equipment previously chosen only for strength. The campaign therefore broadens his offensive reach while exposing the endurance and gear costs of relying on an oversized weapon. (Chapters 382–386)
Later, Wiz and Bella continue hunting threats spawned around Wistover, including a Troglodyte group. When Bella becomes pregnant, his protective response becomes excessive enough to anger her, but it arises from the same family-first instinct that kept him at Aramos during the earlier crisis. Their disagreement changes how they take jobs rather than ending their partnership. (Chapters 629 and 783)
Appearance and personality
Wiz is over 190 centimetres tall, massively built, and notably more muscular than either parent. He wears a tartan kilt at home, and a later glimpse describes fresh braids across his large head. An old injury has left a semicircular mark on his face, probably from a horse kick. His size leads one caravan guard to compare him to a pit bull, but his eager welcome of Bella contrasts with his intimidating build. (Chapters 25–27, 53, and 357)
He is warm, excitable, brave, and practical about danger. Wiz delights in good equipment and hard fights, yet repeatedly checks wounds, mana, and objectives instead of pursuing glory blindly. His strongest loyalty is to Bella and their families; that protectiveness is valuable in battle but becomes overbearing when he treats her pregnancy as proof that she cannot judge risk for herself. (Chapters 26–32, 35–39, and 783)
Magic, skills, and craft
Wiz is a Crusader whose Holy Stone supports frontline combat and healing. The corpus establishes his level-seven stone at introduction but does not narrate a sufficiently explicit later sequence of formal advances for a public progression table.
Crusader defence and healing
Wiz combines heavy armour, shield work, and healing, allowing him to function as both main tank and secondary healer. He uses his size to charge enemies away from civilians, raises his shield against follow-up attacks, and places himself between an Ogre and wounded guards even after the creature's club knocks him down. His green-glowing healing spell restores him during combat, while after battle he triages those unable to walk and conserves a limited number of heals for the worst injuries. The magic is therefore powerful but not unlimited: it cannot simply erase every wound, and Wiz must decide who needs it first. (Chapters 25, 30, 32, 36, and 38)
Consecration and close combat
Consecration is an area-damage skill Wiz activates as he charges into a Goblin camp, damaging enemies around the frontline. He pairs it with sword and shield rather than fighting as a distant caster. His physical strength lets him use unusually large blades one-handed when designed for him and, later, wield an oversized two-handed weapon capable of projecting an ice wave and cutting through an Ogre and its club. Those strongest attacks depend on the weapon's magic and demand substantial exertion; they should not be treated as innate ice magic or effortless power. (Chapters 27, 29, 35–36, and 385–386)
Tactical leadership
Wiz organizes small parties by tracking mana, healing, unusual enemy behaviour, and the next objective. He recognizes that an ornamented large Goblin implies a hierarchy different from normal tribal behaviour, leads pursuit of the Goblin Lord, and asks for updated plans when monster encounters disrupt the route. He is most effective when Bella and other ranged fighters can shoot around the enemies he fixes in place. (Chapters 30–32, 38, and 382–385)
Relationships
- Bella: Wiz and Bella grow up on neighbouring farms, become engaged, marry, and form a complementary adventuring pair. He protects the frontline while she supplies ranged fire; his devotion later causes conflict when concern over her pregnancy turns into overprotection. (Chapters 25–26, 38–39, 357, and 783)
- Dominic Wavemates: Wiz welcomes Dominic into his family home, trusts him to remake a treasured sword, and helps conceal the unusual crafting result. They later fight together again around Wistover without their early familiarity being erased by Dominic's title. (Chapters 26–28 and 357–386)
- His parents: Wiz's attachment to his Farmer father and Garden Witch mother shapes his decision to stay at Aramos during the Goblin emergency. Protecting them matters more to him than joining the larger battle. (Chapters 26–27 and 39)
Items
- Cogwork Plate Armour: Dominic crafts Wiz an uncommon-quality set with broad coverage suited to a frontline fighter. Wiz is so pleased that he initially sleeps in it. (Chapters 35–36)
- Blade of Blood Boil: Dominic reforges Wiz's broken sword with a Goblin Shaman Core and Dragon Fire, producing an uncommon black blade whose effect adds burning damage on hit. (Chapter 27)
- Oversized ice blade: Wiz temporarily uses a powerful two-handed weapon whose ice magic projects a cutting wave and can sever an Ogre Warrior's club and body, but its weight and exertion requirements make it impractical for ordinary use. (Chapters 385–386)
