Biography

Burton, Dagos, and the Royal Marriage

James enters his father's strategy office expecting wartime logistics and instead learns that the thirty-fourth Marquis has retired and transferred the title and estates to him. Though the proper ceremony must wait, James accepts the duty, asks for current reports, and moves directly from military logistics into ruling a damaged city. He questions how Dominic can be both Royal adviser and gunsmith, then uses the answer to clarify which officers and specialists are available as repairs and redeployment begin. His succession is therefore neither ceremonial nor leisurely: grief and war force him to assume authority while Burton is still recovering. (Chapters 132–135)
