Vlad Halep
Vlad Halep is a Romanian Earthling Warrior, the older brother of Oana Halep, and a later member of Valhalla. His intimidating reserve conceals fierce protectiveness, disciplined training, and hard-earned insight into how grief can be manipulated.
Biography
Protection, Valhalla, and the final war
Vlad travels between cities with Oana after the siblings are denied the promised support behind an earlier agreement. When Seol asks Oana to guide the Spirit Realm expedition, Vlad imposes conditions because protecting his sister has governed his life since a predatory creditor and subsequent pursuers endangered their family. He accompanies her through the Astral region, watches her collapse under its effects, and accepts Valhalla's protection after their guidance helps the expedition reach its destination. (Chapters 140, 143–144, and 178)
Vlad trains with a chained scythe every morning and earns Jang Maldong's approval for diligence. When rage threatens Seol's judgment, Vlad shares how refusing to surrender to his own anger kept him from becoming an enemy and offers butter coffee until Seol calms down. The conversation leads Seol to invite both siblings into Valhalla formally, converting a temporary shelter into membership and giving Vlad the secure community he had failed to find on either Earth or Paradise. (Chapters 170 and 178)
During the renewed war, Vlad stands in front of Oana and orders her to run, then joins Valhalla's frontline fighters after Seol returns. He suffers extreme injuries while restraining Twisted Kindness and dies during the final campaign, but the Seven Sins resurrect the final-war dead. He later serves as rear guard on a rescue expedition and disappears with Erica Lawrence in a distorted passage; his condition after that disappearance is not resolved within his final cited scene. (Chapters 190, 200, 202, and 248)
Appearance and personality
Vlad is exceptionally tall, long-haired, muscular, and naturally intimidating, with a rough deep voice and a stoic expression. He is quiet, direct, and usually indifferent to gossip, but is not unfeeling. His concern for Oana dominates his decisions, and his awkward attempts to comfort Seol or an anxious stranger reveal kindness expressed through protection, hot drinks, and practical action rather than fluent reassurance. (Chapters 140, 178, 224, and 242)
Abilities and class
Vlad is a physically powerful Warrior who fights with a chained scythe. He trains from before dawn until daybreak, can contest another giant's pull on the chain, and joins other Warriors in physically pinning Twisted Kindness's arm while allied restraints are active. His exact class and level are never stated, and his severe injuries and final-war death establish clear mortal limits. (Chapters 170, 178, and 200–202)
Relationships
- Oana Halep: Vlad is Oana's older brother, guardian, and long-term protector. He supports her Spirit Eyes work despite fearing its cost, enters Valhalla with her, and repeatedly places himself between her and danger. (Chapters 140, 143–144, 178, 190, and 248)
- Seol Jihu: Vlad initially negotiates strict conditions with Seol, then recognizes that Valhalla has ended the siblings' persecution. His account of resisting manipulation restores Seol's reason, and their agreement makes the siblings official members. (Chapters 140, 178, and 190)
- Jang Maldong: Jang gives Vlad training advice and rates his diligence highly. The corpus establishes respect for Vlad's routine but does not depict a formal master-disciple arrangement. (Chapter 178)
Items
- Chained scythe: Vlad's principal weapon has a chain that lets him pull or contest opponents at range while retaining the scythe for close combat. It has no stated proper name or independent magical ability. (Chapters 170, 178, and 190)
- Butter coffee: Vlad prepares coffee with butter as a warming drink from his homeland. It functions as personal hospitality, not an elixir, and helps create the setting in which Seol regains his composure. (Chapters 178 and 242)
