Exploding Patience is the Parasites’ Fifth Army Commander and the leader of their Banshees. A nonphysical spirit specializing in curses and sound, she destroys herself when defeated in the final war; the separate “what-if” scenario depicts an alternate version still fighting for the Parasite Queen. Biography

Defense of the Parasite domain

Exploding Patience appears among the commanders assembled around the Parasite Queen, showing unusually open concern for her sovereign. At Tigol she deploys a Banshee army and uses a wide-ranging wail against the defenders, but the campaign forces the Parasites to consume troops and reveal powers they would prefer to preserve. Her role remains primarily ranged support because her curses and incorporeal nature are more useful at distance than in close combat. (Chapters 142, 149–150, 152)

Final battle

During the final war, ordinary physical attacks pass through Exploding Patience, so Roselle and Flone coordinate spirit forces, written spellcraft, and methods suited to an incorporeal enemy. Ea’s vacuum also removes the air needed to carry her sound attacks. Cornered after that layered countermeasure, she apologizes to the Queen and detonates her own divinity; the explosion kills multiple Spirit Lords, devastates nearby forces, and cripples Roselle, but it also ends Exploding Patience’s life. She resembles a refined noblewoman wrapped in the shroud of the deceased and surrounded by a bleak aura. Her dignity contrasts with the destructive character of her title. She is fiercely loyal to the Parasite Queen and emotionally affected by threats to her, yet remains capable of deliberate sacrifice when continued survival would no longer serve the Queen’s cause.
