Alex

Alex is a Level 3 Investigative Priest from Area 4 and a member of Samuel’s expedition team. His healing and support magic help the group survive the Forest of Denial, but he dies with the rest of Samuel’s team after they separate from the expedition and return to the tomb. (Chapters 23–30)

Biography

Forest of Denial

Alex welcomes Seol Jihu to Haramark and helps bring him into Samuel’s expedition as a porter. During the fight with the Lioners, Alex sustains the frontline through repeated divine spells, even losing a crucifix artifact in the process. Later, Samuel’s team yields to greed and separates from the others to revisit the tomb; its vengeful spirit kills Alex and his companions, making their decision—not a lack of earlier combat competence—the immediate cause of their destruction. Appearance and personality

Alex is a young man in Priest clothing, usually remembered for his bright smile and optimistic, talkative manner. He can be skeptical and complains about expending valuable offerings, but he still lends his altar when asked and continues casting support magic under pressure. The corpus later recalls him kindly without erasing his participation in his team’s fatal return to the tomb. (Chapters 23, 25, 27–29)

Abilities and class

As a Level 3 Investigative Priest, Alex chants divine spells that restore or strengthen allies and carries the altar and offerings used for priestly ceremonies. He aspires to the High Priest path but has not reached it during the expedition. Once his crucifix is destroyed, his effectiveness falls sharply, showing that his demonstrated spellcasting depends partly on prepared religious equipment. (Chapters 23, 27–29, 103)

Relationships

• Samuel: Alex is a member of Samuel’s team and follows its final decision to separate from the main expedition. (Chapters 25–30)
• Seol Jihu: Alex befriends Seol early, supports him during the expedition, and is remembered as part of Seol’s first experience of loss in Paradise. (Chapters 23–30, 33)
• Grace and Veronika: They are fellow members of Samuel’s team and die in the same disaster. (Chapters 25–30)

Items

Alex carries a crucifix, an altar, and ritual offerings. The crucifix turns to dust after supporting Hugo during the Lioner battle; the surviving altar is later used in the attempted soul-appeasing ceremony. (Chapters 27–29)
