Kim Eunseo

Kim Eunseo is a psychologist who treated William before the system and becomes his therapist and confidante after integration. She uses professional boundaries, honesty, and practical courage to redirect a vastly stronger patient away from indiscriminate violence.

Biography

Reuniting with William and guiding his change

William seeks Kim out after returning to Earth and rescues her and her young daughter Seo-Yun from attackers. Kim agrees to resume treating him only after negotiating rules that protect her autonomy, her daughter, confidentiality, and honest communication. Although she has little combat power, she repeatedly challenges William’s reasoning, pushes him toward nonviolent conflict resolution, and uses her authority as a therapist even when he could physically overpower everyone around them. Their partnership gives Kim protection while giving William the rare person before whom he can discuss emotions without performance. At the first World Congress, Kim independently approaches Jake Thayne to learn what happened between him and William and to ask that their next meeting not begin with an immediate killing. She does not excuse William’s Tutorial crimes; instead, she tries to understand the trauma and create room for improvement. Her counsel later helps William confront Jake and reconsider his Path, and she continues advising him after he renounces Eversmile. By the second Congress, her advice frames his disorientation as a period in which he can find himself rather than a failure demanding another imposed identity. Appearance and personality

Kim is a small Korean woman in her early-to-mid thirties with long black hair, large eyes, and features echoed closely by her daughter. At the World Congress she wears business-casual clothing rather than adventuring gear. She is compassionate but not naive: she recognizes William’s danger, sets enforceable boundaries, maintains confidentiality, and rebukes him directly when he exposes children to violence.

Path, class, and abilities

• Psychological practice: Kim’s central expertise predates the system. She identifies William’s avoidance, trauma responses, empathy, and self-deception, then uses questions and negotiated boundaries rather than magical compulsion to guide him.
• Hypnosis: She has a skill that can calm or put her daughter to sleep through a spoken cue. The scene establishes a targeted supportive use, not general mind control, combat range, or the ability to overcome resistant adults.
• Low combat progression: Kim is level 17 when William finds her and level 51 at the first World Congress. Her growth does not make her a front-line fighter, and the text does not name her class or profession.
• Practical limits: Kim depends on William for physical protection and cannot force him to follow her advice. Her influence works because he consents to their karmic agreement and values her judgment.
• Latest state: She remains alive and continues counseling William through the consequences of his emotional development and separation from Eversmile.

Relationships

• William: Kim is first William’s pre-system psychologist, then his contracted partner and trusted confidante. She neither absolves him nor abandons treatment, helping him understand emotions and choose a Path for himself.
• Jake Thayne: Kim questions Jake about William’s trauma and asks for restraint. Her intervention helps make a later conversation possible, though Jake never becomes her patient or close ally.
• Seo-Yun: Kim’s daughter is her primary responsibility and a non-negotiable part of her agreement with William. No separate character page is generated for her.
