Hank

Hank is a pre-system construction worker and Tutorial survivor who becomes Haven’s first builder and the leader responsible for turning Jake’s protected valley into a functioning settlement.

Biography

Survival and the foundations of Haven

Hank returns to Earth with Miranda and his two surviving children after losing his wife and extended family in the Tutorial. When an Oakwood Tiger toys with the exhausted group, he sacrifices an arm to throw his axe and divert it from his children, fulfilling the promise he made to protect them even though the attack cannot kill the beast. Jake’s intervention saves the group, and Hank chooses to remain in the protected valley where his construction experience can give the survivors a defensible home. (Chapters 127–134)

As more survivors arrive, Hank deliberately stops prioritizing combat progression and refuses equipment he does not need. He takes charge of housing, planning, and infrastructure while Miranda manages the city’s political growth, becoming the practical leader of Haven’s building initiative. His profession lets a small workforce erect lodges and civic structures at system-enhanced speed, and his long-term contribution is measured less by personal battles than by the city, laboratories, defenses, and later construction projects that others can use. Appearance and personality

Hank is a middle-aged man, but the corpus provides no stable detailed description beyond his workmanlike use of an axe and the injuries he suffers on arrival. He is protective, practical, and willing to confront people whose choices endanger his family. Once Haven is safe enough to plan beyond the next fight, he shows little interest in prestige and chooses the profession work that the community actually needs. (Chapters 127–151)

Hank combines an evolved builder profession with a secondary combat class. His strongest and most sustained abilities are constructive rather than martial.

Construction and emergency combat

His profession builds on pre-system construction knowledge, allowing him to plan structures, direct labor, fell and move enhanced trees, and create housing far faster than old-world methods permit. The corpus does not provide the later names or exact mechanics of his building skills, but repeatedly identifies him as the person responsible for actual construction rather than architectural planning alone. In combat, he uses an axe and a rare throwing skill capable of concentrating enough stamina to wound a much stronger beast, though overloading it at his initial level destroys his arm and demonstrates the method’s severe bodily limit.
