Cursed Monarch

The Cursed Monarch is the resurrected husk of Yalsten’s King of Blood, awakened as the final boss of the Treasure Hunt. The curse that destroyed his world initially twists and weakens him; Sanguine’s legacy later restores his vampire form and identity.

Biography

Awakening, restoration, and defeat

Removing Yalsten’s last anchors awakens the Cursed Monarch from a coffin beneath the central spire as the world collapses. The system describes him as the husk of the King of Blood, resurrected and distorted by his own ancient curse. He raises hundreds of cursed soldiers and royal guards, fights the strongest Treasure Hunters, and identifies Casper’s curse support as a priority threat. Although still near level 190, his damaged body and curse prevent him from using his former strength cleanly, and coordinated poison, cursed stakes, melee pressure, and healing steadily wear him down. (Chapters 327–332)

The Monarch then reveals the treasure he isolated Yalsten to protect: Sanguine’s Blood Legacy. Its power removes the curse, restores him as the younger and stronger level 170 Monarch of Blood, and transforms fallen vampires into blood elementals. He uses blood weapons, mist movement, mental commands, clones, regeneration, and lingering curses in the renewed battle. When defeat becomes unavoidable, he uses a final self-destructive attack and spitefully redirects rewards away from the Holy Church. The body dies, but the Legacy preserves his soul as Iskar, a steward charged with guiding the artifact and vampires created through it. (Chapters 332–340, 349)

Appearance and personality

The Cursed Monarch first appears as a cloaked, withered vampire wearing a black crown, his body a ruined husk marked by the curse. Sanguine’s legacy gives him deep red hair, a black beard, tightened skin, renewed muscle, and deep red eyes containing magic circles. He is articulate, proud, and reflective about Yalsten’s failure, but also ruthless: he killed those who tried to leave and is willing to turn his own death into one last act of revenge.

Path, class, and abilities

  • Curse origin: The King of Blood helped create the curse over Yalsten, then became trapped and distorted by it. In Cursed Monarch form it weakens his body and restricts his former power even while supplying cursed soldiers.
  • Blood and mist combat: He forms changing weapons from blood crystal, launches beams and blood magic, turns into mist to reposition, creates barriers and clones, and regenerates major wounds. Anti-vampire stakes, curse amplification, and sustained poison make that regeneration less effective.
  • Mental command: A spoken command can put poorly defended targets such as Eron to sleep. The Sword Saint resists it, while Carmen breaks the effect through self-inflicted pain, so it is powerful but not absolute.
  • Curses: As Monarch of Blood he embeds curses in body and spirit, including one that prolongs Carmen’s post-skill weakness. Earth’s healers cannot safely remove it, but it fades over time, showing both depth and finite duration.
  • Legacy transformation: Sanguine’s Blood Legacy removes his curse and more than twenty levels, yet makes him substantially stronger by restoring a coherent vampire form and empowering blood elementals. The item, rather than the Monarch alone, causes the battlefield-wide transformation.
  • Final limit and latest state: Coordinated Treasure Hunters kill his restored body despite its superior quality. His self-explosion is lethal enough to threaten the victors, but it does not preserve the body. His soul remains bound to the Legacy as its steward, with manifestation and custody dependent on that artifact.

Relationships

  • Casper: Casper’s curses interfere with the Monarch’s healing, prompting the vampire to target him early and repeatedly.
  • The Sword Saint: The swordsman anchors the melee assault and later becomes the custodian accepted by the Legacy, forcing the surviving steward to work with one of his killers.
  • Jake Thayne: Jake’s poison, ranged pressure, and tracking are central to the Monarch’s defeat. The steward later prefers Jake as custodian because of his connection to the Malefic Viper, but Jake honors his wager with the Sword Saint.
  • The Holy Church: The Monarch remembers the Church as an ancient enemy and uses his final moments to deny it the outcome it prepared to claim.
