Lancaster

Alex Lancaster is the former Captain of England's Royal Guard and Rachel's former master. After his family is killed in the London Incident, he concludes that England abandoned him and accepts a devil as his new master. He then turns his knowledge of the kingdom against Rachel and the royal family, using projections, assassins, monster allies, and stolen security information in a revenge campaign that remains unresolved.

Biography

The projection at Cube

Lancaster first confronts Rachel in a darkened room at Cube, appearing caped and masked as the mentor she believed had vanished. He blames his country for killing everything he loved and rejects her claim that he sold his soul, saying instead that a new master accepted the soul England abandoned. Grief becomes a deliberate justification for targeting the princess who embodies the nation he hates. (Chapter 44)

Rachel's rapier passes through him because he is “somewhere, but not here.” Lancaster taunts her about England's willingness to sacrifice thousands for its only hope, then dissolves into black fog as an assassin attacks from the same darkness. The encounter establishes a pattern: he projects menace and personal guilt from safety while agents create the physical danger his immaterial appearance cannot directly deliver. (Chapter 44)

Watching Rachel

In a dark tunnel, Lancaster speaks in a British voice without revealing a body and drops the apparent corpse of an intelligence agent who had guarded Rachel. He tells her he is always watching, then withdraws; when the lights return, the corpse has vanished with him. The display is psychological warfare aimed at making Rachel anticipate loss even when Lancaster chooses not to fight. (Chapter 110)

Years later, Rachel receives a letter addressed to his “precious princess” while England faces monsters arriving from the sea. The message's contents are not reproduced, but its sender and timing confirm that Lancaster's fixation has continued beyond the early assassinations. His revenge remains centered on Rachel's emotional burden and on England's instability rather than on a single attempt to kill her. (Chapter 254)

Orden's servant and unfinished revenge

Lancaster later appears physically in Orden's underground laboratory as the Monster King's only non-monster servant. Scarred and deferential, he reports Kurukuru's recovery and presents four successful humanoid monsters produced from 31,103 synthesis attempts. After Orden names Tigris, Xphil, Doloren, and Toji, Lancaster records them for a video intended to threaten the England he still resents. (Chapter 270)

After Orden's fall, Lancaster offers Yi Yeonjun England itself: confidential national documents and class-1 security codes capable of disabling British shields and systems. He asks only for the destruction of the royal family, showing that neither serving Orden nor changing patrons altered his motive. His fate is not shown in that meeting; years later Rachel explicitly confirms that he is still alive and treats him as one of the remaining obstacles to England's restoration. (Chapters 311 and 376)

Appearance and personality

Lancaster's first appearance is a caped figure with his face concealed, while his remote body can disperse into black fog. His later physical appearance is distinguished by a scarred face and a polite bow before Orden. The contrast supports his two operating modes: an elusive projection used to haunt Rachel and a visibly damaged human servant working inside a monster ruler's laboratory. (Chapters 44 and 270)

He is formal, bitter, obsessive, and manipulative. Lancaster still addresses Rachel as Princess and bows with the etiquette of his former station, but twists that courtly language into threats. He can flatter Orden and bargain with Yi Yeonjun, changing allies without changing his objective. His grievance began in genuine bereavement, yet he repeatedly chooses to reproduce that suffering through assassins, terror, and attacks on an entire royal family. Gifts and abilities

Lancaster is a Djinn who says a new master took in his abandoned soul, but the corpus does not give his devil-granted power a formal name. He can project an intangible likeness across distance, speak from darkness, dissolve the image into black fog, and display a corpse that vanishes with the projection. These scenes demonstrate remote manifestations and illusion-like effects, not confirmed teleportation or direct physical invulnerability. (Chapters 44 and 110)

His greater danger is operational. Lancaster deploys assassins, watches Rachel from afar, communicates by letter, works with monster researchers, and possesses England's highest security information. Under Orden, he helps present the successful humanoid-monster synthesis program and converts its results into propaganda. He later tries to trade state codes to Yi Yeonjun, showing deep institutional knowledge carried over from his Royal Guard career. (Chapters 44, 110, 254, 270, and 311)

The limits of his personal combat ability remain unclear. Rachel cannot strike the remote figure, but Lancaster leaves the physical attack to an assassin, and no later direct scene shows him dueling. Likewise, the temporary corpse may be a projection rather than a transported body, but the text does not define the mechanism. His threat should therefore be described through demonstrated surveillance, manifestations, followers, and intelligence rather than invented combat feats. (Chapters 44 and 110)

• Rachel: Lancaster was Rachel's master and the Captain responsible for royal protection before becoming one of her country's greatest enemies.
