Hayang
Hayang is Evandel's pet cat and constant domestic companion.
Biography
Life with Evandel
Hayang becomes Evandel's everyday companion during the period when the young witch is learning how to live with other people. The cat sleeps and plays beside her, gets into small trouble such as stealing food, and accompanies her through changes of home and guardian. Those domestic scenes matter because Evandel's life is otherwise shaped by secrecy and dangerous magic: Hayang gives her a creature to care for without political expectations. When adults move Evandel for safety, Hayang remains with her through stays involving Ah Hae-In, Rachel, and Haeyeon's household, preserving a small continuity amid separations from Hajin. (Chapters 96–100, 107, 117, 145, 150, 155, 171, 177, 198, 215, 225, 233–234, 251, 291, 309, 328, 341, 366)
Appearance and personality
Hayang is a domestic cat with the curious, food-motivated behavior of an ordinary pet. Affectionate companionship coexists with mischief, making the cat a lively presence rather than a symbolic familiar. (Chapters 96–100, 107, 117)
Gifts and abilities
No supernatural Gift or combat ability is established. Hayang's narrative function rests on companionship and the ordinary rhythms of pet care. (Chapters 96–100, 145–155)
Relationships
Hayang's central bond is with Evandel, who treats the cat as family. The adults responsible for Evandel also shelter Hayang, recognizing that separating the pair would remove an important source of comfort. (Chapters 145–155, 225, 233–234, 309)
