Eren

Eren is an orphaned boy from Akatrina who dreams of becoming a knight. His devotion to his sick master makes him vulnerable to Princess Prihi's bargain, binding his rapid rise to a political betrayal he did not understand.

Biography

The temple and a knight's apprenticeship

Abandoned at a rural temple as a baby, Eren is raised by its nuns and grows more interested in swordsmanship than study. A retired knight named Jinkens recognizes his enthusiasm and takes him as a student, giving the lonely boy both a calling and a parental bond. When the Demon Realm Transformation reaches the temple, Eren follows his master to the capital, works tirelessly as a squire, and earns the older knights' respect even as Jinkens's incurable illness worsens. (Chapters 345–347)

Prihi's bargain and its cost

Princess Prihi approaches Eren when he is desperate to save Jinkens and offers medicine in exchange for his allegiance. Eren accepts, and her treatment restores his master while her support accelerates Eren's growth. The bargain becomes a trap when Prihi seizes the kingdom and purges Puharen's supporters: Eren's oath separates him from the knights who trained him, and after winning Prihi's tournament he finds Jinkens murdered by loyalists who view him as a traitor. His wish to become a just knight consequently leaves him burdened with guilt and grief. (Chapters 348–350)

Appearance and personality

Eren is large and well built for his age, while Prihi is notably smaller beside him. He is optimistic, hardworking, affectionate toward the nuns who raised him, and deeply loyal to his master. His youth and idealized understanding of knighthood also make him politically naïve.

Gifts and abilities

No Gift is named for Eren. He has unusual physical promise and advances quickly through disciplined sword training, eventually defeating adult competitors and winning a royal swordsmanship tournament.
