Talay

Talay is a carnivorous Ent Wizard whose cursed physiology makes him an outcast, but whose magical and technical knowledge eventually places him at the head of Vaseniol’s Magic Tower.

Biography

The outcast who becomes master of the tower

Talay first possesses knowledge of gunpowder and cannons but lacks the magical status needed to protect or advance it. He trades that knowledge to Golden Eye in exchange for help becoming a Wizard, then fulfills the prophecy that he will betray Danyum and disappears with other persecuted alchemists. Talay later helps establish a new order in Golden Eye. His path damages former states, but it also rejects a society in which his body and knowledge can be used while the person remains despised. (Chapters 96 and 108–146)

By the era of the moon-facing plan, Talay has survived contempt from other Ents, become master of Vaseniol Magic Tower, and reached the rank of High Commissioner. He commits Wizards and disciples to the space agency, helping combine magic with aerospace engineering. Talay’s arguments with Simo reflect competition for a shared Sky Castle and limited resources, not rejection of science; both projects become part of the same defense, and Talay calmly interprets the distant battle when instruments cannot. Appearance and personality

Talay is an Ent, a tree-like species, but his curse gives him internal organs other Ents contemptuously call lumps of meat and causes horrific tinnitus. He is also carnivorous, further separating him from a species that normally consumes water and nutrient sap. Talay is formal, proud of Wizards’ contribution, sharp in arguments, and resilient enough to turn bodily stigma into institutional authority. (Chapters 109–110 and 277–282)

Powers and abilities

Talay is a Wizard and alchemist with knowledge of gunpowder, cannons, magical research, and the integration of spellcraft into spaceflight. As Magic Tower master, he works through disciples and institutions rather than personally performing every mission effect. The corpus does not name his individual spells, define the combat consequences of his tinnitus, or establish that his longevity comes from a specific technique.
