Ravina is an antlered Human alchemist who escapes the family that rejects her, travels across the continent, and returns with knowledge that accelerates Black Scale’s gunpowder development.
Biography
The outlier who brings back forbidden knowledge
Ravina runs away from Automation at nine after deciding she cannot live under its constraints. She abandons the Hwee and Muel names, works for a merchant, survives enslavement, and studies under a Gnoll aristocrat in Danly. When she returns, Kyle Lak Orazen treats the reputed curse and alchemical background as resources rather than disgrace. Ravina gives Rumf the principles of gunpowder and ancient weapons, and his ability to turn her brief explanation into prototypes makes their partnership a foundation of Black Scale’s new arsenal. (Chapters 87–99)
Ravina then joins the southern expedition as a technology officer, evaluates weapons, identifies likely pirate routes, and remains composed enough to read fear in the Astacidea holding her hostage. Her knowledge helps the expedition test artillery and locate the pirates’ distant base rather than merely reproduce a recipe in the palace. Much later, Mazdari continues to see her in the afterlife but chooses not to pull her into the Pantheon, preferring freely exchanged greetings over manipulating where she stays. Appearance and personality
Ravina is a Human woman with antlers, a visible inherited curse associated with Hwee-Kyung’s bloodline. She is young during her return to Black Scale but already widely traveled, independent, and bluntly curious. Experience as a runaway, slave, student, and alchemist makes her difficult to intimidate; she observes a captor’s trembling antennae even while a claw is around her neck. (Chapters 88–100)
Powers and abilities
Ravina is an alchemist with knowledge of gunpowder composition, weapon design, and older nonreligious technologies. Her contribution is informational and experimental: Rumf builds the prototypes, cannoneers operate them, and field trials reveal what works. Her curse comes from a bloodline linked to Demonic Magic, but the corpus does not demonstrate Ravina personally using Electricity, Flame, Gravity, or another named spirit effect. Antlers alone therefore do not establish a specific combat ability. (Chapters 87–100)
