Shaiven

Shaiven is the Nix heir who responds to defeat and perceived divine abandonment by becoming the first Vampire queen and building the hidden country of White Tooth.

Biography

Building White Tooth from the abandoned

Shaiven expects to inherit Golden Eye until war with the Ears Cut Tribe kills her mother and devastates the Nixes. Believing her former god has abandoned her, she accepts the power of Jeol Woo-Bi and begins turning captives and other vulnerable people into Vampires. With only a few early subordinates, she infiltrates three fortresses as beggars, servants, or slaves, kills or converts their leaders, and expands beneath the other gods’ notice. White Tooth becomes a multi-species army whose inherited abilities Shaiven organizes into specialized divisions. (Chapters 68–72)

The same system contains the cause of her defeat. Shaiven’s army depends on slavery and treats species diversity as military material rather than a coalition with shared interests. During the battle with Black Scale, the slaves revolt and the supposedly flexible force lacks a commander capable of matching Lakrak. Shaiven insists the siege was still winnable, but tries to flee after Jeol Woo-Bi falls. Her own Vampires capture and kill her before surrendering, leaving “Demon Queen” as a warning attached to the first generation of their lineage. (Chapters 73–81)

Appearance and personality

Shaiven is a Nix woman and later a first-generation Vampire. The corpus emphasizes position and expression more than clothing: she rules from a command desk, slams it in anger, and becomes eerily calm when rage peaks. She is clever, ambitious, secretive, and effective at infiltration, but overestimates her battlefield command and mistakes coerced diversity for reliable loyalty. (Chapters 68–74)

Powers and abilities

As a first-generation Vampire, Shaiven can embrace victims and create later Vampire generations; the first generation is generally described as strong as an Ogre, while later generations lose physical strength and eventually the ability to embrace. She retains the useful physical traits of her original Nix species and organizes converted species by their specialties. The exact limits of her personal regeneration, blood need, and combat strength are not separately quantified, and her strategic success relies heavily on secrecy. (Chapters 69–74, 178, and 269)
