Margo is an enslaved Pangolin who helps Vasen Lak Orazen understand the fourth continent, leads the liberation of Siol, and becomes a king known for mediation.

Biography

From frightened laborer to cautious king

Margo first appears as an enslaved worker punished for giving water to a sick companion. After Vasen knocks out the Rakshasa supervisor, Margo weighs the danger of trusting a stranger and decides there is no remaining safe choice. They explain Ashurada’s rule, guide the rescue of Katuru, and bring Vasen to Pangolin records that complicate his assumptions. When war approaches, Margo prefers a profitable peace and openly fears the Rakshasas’ strength, but once negotiation fails they organize Pangolin fighters and personally lead the assault on Siol. (Chapters 149–157)

Victory makes Margo the crowned king of a growing Pangolin civilization. They honor the foreign creation Hillove beside Katuru without forcing Pantheon worship on a population cautious of unfamiliar things. Margo later supplies military intelligence, commands matchlock troops against Ashurada, and helps resolve conflict between Black Scale and native species. The emperor’s title of arbitrator recognizes the development from survival-minded slave to ruler who treats restraint and translation as strategic strengths. (Chapters 158–174)

Appearance and personality

Margo is a small Pangolin who can curl into a ball and is frequently described with round, expressive eyes. They are compassionate, cautious, easily worried, and inclined to apologize, but not submissive once given a genuine choice. Their instinct that war wastes lives repeatedly checks Vasen’s confidence, while loyalty to Katuru and the Pangolins can still move them into direct battle. (Chapters 149–171)

Powers and abilities

Margo has no demonstrated magic or divine power. Their abilities are local knowledge, translation, leadership, sword use, and the practical organization of Pangolin matchlock troops. They can read native diagrams and estimate the Moving Castle’s structure for Vasen, but military success depends on imported gunpowder, Hillove, Katuru, and collective action. The title “arbitrator” records diplomatic achievement rather than a supernatural ability to compel peace. (Chapters 149–174)
