Ashurada
Ashurada is the Dragon worshiped by the dominant Rakshasa tribe, ruling through sacrifices and the Moving Castle until Black Scale’s expedition seizes both fortress and body.
Biography
The guardian inside the Moving Castle
Ashurada’s favored tribe unifies the Rakshasas, raids neighboring peoples, and builds a system in which regional guardians submit to the Great Ashurada and captives are offered as sacrifices. Ashurada remains inside the dome of the Moving Castle, rarely responding even to internal conflict, while chosen Rakshasas operate the fortress around him. That distance protects his mystique but leaves the control room and outer city vulnerable when Vasen Lak Orazen’s expedition infiltrates the castle. (Chapters 150–166)
When the fortress is stopped, Ashurada enters battle as a true Dragon and nearly overwhelms the attackers with physical force, self-modifying magic, and breath. Mazdari uses the opening created by the other combatants to place Gordius through a wound in Ashurada’s palate. The Dragon attempts to burn the parasite and even devises a spell that would destroy part of his own head, but Gordius reaches the brain first and takes control. Ashurada’s body survives as Black Scale’s weapon while the ruler himself is gone. (Chapters 166–172)
Appearance and personality
Ashurada is a gigantic Dragon with four legs, a long neck, wings, claws, jaws, and a body large enough to dominate the Moving Castle’s upper grounds. He is proud, pain-resistant, and accustomed to swallowing apostles, monsters, and divine beings. His confidence makes most resistance seem insignificant, but he can rapidly invent desperate magic when he recognizes a truly fatal intrusion. (Chapters 157 and 166–172)
Powers and abilities
Ashurada possesses enormous strength, durable scales, a fiery breath spell, flight-capable anatomy, and advanced self-modification magic. His altered nervous system gives unusually precise sensation and lets him design new spells quickly, but that sensitivity also tells him exactly where Gordius is moving. Breath can scorch internal passages, yet Gordius’s location near the brain prevents safe removal; Ashurada’s final solution would sacrifice half his head and still comes too late. Once Gordius takes the body, its breath and physical abilities remain available to the parasite. (Chapters 166–174)
