Hillove
Hillove is Night Sky’s enormous white-spider creation, specialized in destroying infantry and later honored by the Pangolins as a guardian.
Biography
The annihilator who becomes a guardian
Hillove first serves Choi Sung-Woon as a silent hunter, disposing of a Deep One and driving pirates from the Southern Archipelago. On the fourth continent, Sung-Woon sends the spider to rescue Katuru and protect the enslaved Pangolins. Hillove’s annihilator body walks through Rakshasa infantry that ordinary Pangolins cannot match, but the victory is deliberately paired with Margo’s own mobilization so liberation does not depend forever on an outside monster. The Pangolins later honor Hillove beside Katuru, drawing part of their society toward the Pantheon. (Chapters 92–100 and 151–158)
Hillove remains in the campaign as both defender and specialist. Its presence deters attacks on Siol, it helps hold the temple during the assault on Ashurada, and its web binds the Dragon’s weapon to a rock during the decisive fight. That support creates openings for companions rather than ending the battle alone, reflecting the creation’s limit: it excels against masses of weaker mortals but faces a much more dangerous contest against giant or divine opponents. (Chapters 161 and 169–171)
Appearance and personality
Hillove is a white spider with eight enormous legs, each extending about fifteen meters and ending in an obsidian-sharp point. Its thick exoskeleton resists ordinary ranged attacks, and six lidless eyes remain open. It speaks sparingly, sits motionless for long periods, and accepts the Pangolins’ respectful “Mr. Hillove” without showing much visible emotion. (Chapters 151–158)
Powers and abilities
As an annihilator, Hillove is designed to kill infantry, armies, mortals, and lesser monsters. It can impale Rakshasas with a leg faster than they can strike, ignore thrown stones and slings, produce restraining web, and connect its consciousness to a figurine used on the Pantheon’s strategic representation. The specialization is explicit: Hillove can fight monsters, but it is most efficient against beings weaker than itself and requires cooperation when confronting Ashurada. (Chapters 152–157 and 169–171)
