Lide Oboren
Lide Oboren is a Yeti-presenting Fairy scientist whose genuine expertise is entangled with a covert effort to delay investigation of Avartin’s second moon.
Biography
A real scientist behind a false approach
Ion first receives a message in Lide’s name inviting him to present calculations about evidence for two moons, only to learn that the contact is an impersonator from the Power of Reality. When Ramin Solost Muel arranges a meeting with the real Lide, the prominent Yeti scientist recognizes Ion’s earlier questions, praises the fresh perspective, and offers papers and contacts. Investigation then reveals that Lide is herself both a Fairy and a member of the secularist network; her helpful recommendations lead toward an unreliable scholar and slow the research that threatens Jeolyo’s concealment. (Chapters 258–264)
Once the Fairies are exposed and the old game approaches its end, Lide’s scientific ability proves genuine rather than a cover. She helps move and shelter Fairy civilians during the crisis, then works as a rocket engineer in the moon-facing plan. Lide coordinates Sky Island movement with the space agency and supplies observations during the difficult launch schedule. Her story separates misconduct from identity: being a Fairy is not treated as a crime, while the use of real authority to obstruct Ion remains a choice with consequences. (Chapters 269–278)
Appearance and personality
Lide has the outward form of a Yeti: tall, covered in carefully groomed fur, and decorated with traditional accessories. She knows that large furred species can intimidate smaller people and therefore greets Ion in a soft, gentle voice. Even after months of confinement and crisis dull the shine of her coat, her familiar appearance remains, demonstrating the stability of her Fairy-borrowed form without revealing its underlying mechanism. (Chapters 261–272)
Powers and abilities
Lide is a qualified astrophysicist and rocket engineer capable of evaluating unusual lunar calculations and coordinating aerospace schedules. Genetic testing identifies her as a Fairy despite her Yeti appearance, but the corpus does not show her changing forms, casting a spell, or using an individual Fairy power. Her ability to delay Ion comes through scholarly reputation, selective referrals, and institutional access rather than mind control. Once cooperating, the same expertise materially supports the space program. (Chapters 258–278)
