Godan
Godan is an Astacidea pirate captain from Yaboon’s Pirates. Captured by Vasen Lak Orazen, he survives because his knowledge of southern piracy is more valuable to Black Scale than an immediate execution.
Biography
Captive informant
Godan boards a merchant ship believing two nearby pirate vessels and Astacidea close-combat strength give him the advantage. Vasen kills nearly the entire boarding party and offers the remaining pirates a chance to surrender; Godan hesitates, fights, and is captured. He then talks continuously, identifies Yaboon’s southern origin, and bargains for leniency on the strength of his information. During transfer, Godan escapes police custody and takes Ravina hostage, adding another capital crime, but the incident does not erase his usefulness. Vasen persuades the prefect to release Godan into his custody for the Southern Archipelago expedition, where the pirate recognizes Yaboon’s ships and becomes an unwilling source of local intelligence. Appearance and personality
Godan is an Astacidea with eyes on stalks, two ordinary claws able to hold daggers, and a large claw powerful enough to break or restrain body parts. (Chapters 91–98)
He is confident, opportunistic, talkative, and strongly invested in survival. Godan alternates resistance, complaint, escape, and cooperation as each offers a better chance than prideful death. (Chapters 91–99)
Powers and abilities
Godan has Astacidea all-around vision, powerful claws, dagger skill, seamanship, and detailed knowledge of southern pirates. He is dangerous to ordinary police and hostages but decisively inferior to Vasen in combat. (Chapters 91–99)
