Akulda
Akulda is the Rakshasa governor of Siol and the northern Ashurada tribe. A capable noble within the existing hierarchy, he underestimates the Pangolin rebellion and never realizes that the guardian Koprik has already been killed and possessed.
Biography
Collapse of Siol
Reports of organized Pangolin resistance sound absurd to Akulda, but unease among supervisors and soldiers leads him to send only an investigative unit rather than an army. When the threat grows, he prepares offerings for Koprik, gathers a thousand Rakshasa warriors, and analyzes the outsiders’ slow-loading firearms. Akulda’s political instincts let him negotiate rather than immediately attack, but anger at the Pangolins’ conditions and confidence in the guardian keep him inside a scenario already controlled by Night Sky. Once the Koprik body attacks Siol, Akulda recovers enough to issue sensible defensive orders, then retreats when resistance becomes impossible. The retreat is anticipated: Vasen directs the Pangolins toward their own symbolic victory, and Margo rolls down the temple steps fast enough to shoot Akulda before he can escape. (Chapters 153–157)
Appearance and personality
Akulda is a Rakshasa noble. The supplied corpus gives no distinctive body, clothing, or weapon description beyond his belonging to the larger Rakshasa species. (Chapters 153–157)
He is politically capable, proud, cautious at first, and fearful when control collapses. Akulda can revise commands under pressure, but his assumptions about species hierarchy and Koprik make accurate local tactics strategically irrelevant. (Chapters 153–157)
Powers and abilities
Akulda commands warriors, evaluates unfamiliar weapons, prepares diplomatic offerings, and negotiates as a governor. He has no demonstrated magic or divine ability. His personal speed might have carried him to a rhinoceros, but Margo’s rolling descent overtakes the escape. (Chapters 154–157)
Relationships
- Koprik: Akulda relies on Koprik as an exceptional guardian without knowing the body is controlled by Gordius.
- Vasen Lak Orazen: Vasen shapes the capture so the Pangolins, rather than outsiders, defeat their governor.
- Margo: Margo avenges Katuru and kills Akulda, turning the victory into a foundation for Pangolin statehood.
