Zong Chang
Zong Chang is a Great Zhao court cultivator who pursues the Veiled Yin Dao through a heretical lineage. Ambitious and distrustful of the orthodox institutions that excluded her, she uses speed and illusion to survive conflicts on her own terms.
Biography
A bid for the spoils
Introduced as a Zhao court cultivator by Tianhuo, Zong Chang enters a contest for spoils with Daoist Master Changyun and Daoist Nun Xiangchun, the Lady of the Bei Sea, hoping to keep the gains for herself. She uses the Yin Vast Three Palaces Bewildering Light to delay her opponents and relies on her mobility to withdraw, but Li Zhouwei’s Bright Yang attacks show how readily her Veiled Yin abilities can be countered. When the fight risks becoming mutually destructive, she abandons the chance to keep everything and escapes through the Hall of Doubt. (Chapters 1562, 1577–1578)
A dispute over the Dao
As Wei Xuanyin’s palace attendant, Zong Chang resents his orthodox training and questions why he withheld a share of a recent battle. She recounts that she left Longdi after her family was exploited and, with no other way to survive, became a devil cultivator until her master guided her rise. That history shapes her rejection of Wei’s advice to return to the Orthodox Dao: she argues that its monopolies drove people toward Buddhism and the Devil Dao. Wei warns that Buddhist cultivators would use her as a weapon, but she does not declare a final choice before their exchange ends. (Chapters 1708–1709)
Appearance and personality
Zong Chang is short, with a dignified face and a python-patterned robe; Tianhuo notes a sly malice in her bearing. She is ambitious and impatient for a share of political gains, and her jealousy of Wei Xuanyin sharpens her criticism of the privileges that shaped his path. (Chapters 1562, 1577 and 1708–1709)
Abilities and cultivation
Zong Chang cultivates Veiled Yin through heretical methods. Her Yin Vast Three Palaces Bewildering Light creates illusion and confusion, buying a brief delay rather than stopping stronger opponents. When Zong Chang uses the Hall of Doubt, Li Zhouwei’s Da Sheng halberd fluctuates between heavy and light, freeing the silver shuttles caught against it; she then retreats into the palace and reappears several kilometers away. When pressed by Li Zhouwei, she also dissolves into white wind to evade his attacks, but his higher-grade Bright Yang power continues to threaten her. (Chapters 1577–1578)

- Daoist Nun Xiangchun, the Lady of the Bei Sea: A rival in the contest; Zong Chang needles her with the title tied to her relationship with the Bei Sea Dragon King. (Chapter 1577)
- Changyun: Another rival whose golden wind dispels Zong Chang’s Bewildering Light. (Chapter 1577)
- Her master: An unnamed guide who helped her rise from a devil cultivator in Longdi to her present position. (Chapter 1709)
