Zhang Tianyuan

Zhang Tianyuan is a Golden Feather Sect Daoist Master who leads a mission against the Wrathful Maha and later tries to learn which elder aided Li Tongya. His sect authority gives him formidable resources, though it does not always secure the cooperation he wants.

Biography

The campaign against the Wrathful Maha

Tianyuan leads a three-sect operation to eliminate the Wrathful Maha, whom he judges to have lost himself to the Wrathful Form. When the Maha enlarges his bronze rods and attacks, Tianyuan sends a black tortoise-shell artifact from his sleeve to meet the blow. He then invokes the Golden Bridge Lock, a dharma relic deployed by Azure Pond Sect for the mission under his master’s instructions; its chains descend from the void and bind the Maha, whose lost thread of fate has left him weaker than usual. (Chapters 323 and 326–327)

The binding does not end the encounter on Tianyuan’s terms. When Shangyuan warns that continuing to use their powers would leave the mountain range’s spiritual energy unusable for centuries, Tianyuan first offers compensation, then allows Shangyuan to kill the captive with one strike. The choice ends the fight without the extended destruction Tianyuan’s operation risked causing. (Chapter 327)

A Golden Feather strategist

At the Hunyi Immortal Wall, Tianyuan presses Xiao Chuting to identify the Purple Mansion elder who intervened for Li Tongya and threatens that the Xiao Family will not last without Chuting’s support. Chuting counters by pointing to the urgent crisis facing Azure Pond, and Tianyuan leaves angry without obtaining the answer. Years later Tianyuan and Qiushui travel widely to lay out Golden Feather’s strategies while the sect is at its height. Li Jiangqian later suspects Tianyuan fell within a grotto heaven, and Yuanxiu confirms his fall while remembering him as a minor figure who bullied family cultivators; neither account explains the circumstances. (Chapters 400, 832, 1271 and 1288)

Appearance and personality

Tianyuan appears as a handsome young Daoist in an eight-trigram robe and later wears golden robes. He speaks calmly when confident of his position, but his impatience and anger show when Xiao Chuting refuses to cooperate. (Chapters 326 and 400)

Abilities and cultivation

Tianyuan is a Purple Mansion Realm Daoist Master. His black tortoise-shell artifact blocks the Wrathful Maha’s enlarged bronze rods. For the campaign, he also activates Azure Pond Sect’s Golden Bridge Lock with a hand seal; the relic produces branching chains that bind the Maha, but it is a mission resource rather than an ability or possession shown to belong to Tianyuan. (Chapters 323 and 326–327)
