Yuan Huo’e

Yuan Huo’e is an elderly Yuan-family leader who serves the Azure Pond Sect at Tai’e Island. His duties require him to protect a vulnerable market, accommodate stronger cultivators, and decide whether his family can survive the factional disputes of Mushroom Forest Plain. (Chapters 574, 1259–1262)

Biography

Keeping Tai’e Island open

A water ape had terrorized Tai’e Island for nearly half a year, disrupted the market and forced unrelated residents to leave. Huo’e refused its demand to deactivate the island’s formation so it could search freely, but he was cautious about challenging a demon backed by the Dragon Clan. When Li Xuanfeng arrived under Yuan Su’s orders, Huo’e supplied a report on the ape and quietly suggested returning what it sought to avoid a wider disaster. Once Xuanfeng chose to fight, Huo’e obeyed and helped protect Zhong Qian. Watching Xuanfeng blind the ape with a single arrow changed his caution into genuine admiration; after the demon’s death, Huo’e thanked him and followed his instructions. (Chapters 574–579)

Serving between stronger powers

Years later, Huo’e received Li Zhouwei at Tai’e as the island’s master and an Azure Pond peak master. He initially defended the island’s ability to trade, then froze when Zhouwei’s identity and golden eyes revealed his connection to the Li family. Huo’e explained the Yuan family’s collapse and offered a rare fan entrusted for sale, trying to settle the exchange without worsening old grievances. After Zhouwei left, Huo’e rebuked Zhou Baiyun for concealing the visitor’s identity and considered taking some younger relatives away from Mushroom Forest Plain to rebuild elsewhere. The plan reflects his judgment that the family’s inherited rivalries had become unsustainable, though he is not shown carrying it out. (Chapters 1259–1262)

Appearance and personality

Huo’e is an elderly man with white hair, a kind face and a cane. He is deferential toward powerful cultivators and cautious about provoking them, yet speaks sharply to his own subordinates when their carelessness endangers the family. (Chapters 1259–1262)

Abilities and cultivation

Huo’e’s rank as an individual cultivator is not stated. His authority comes from his positions at Tai’e Island and Lian Peak. He can use a secret technique to send a warning to Li Xuanfeng, but no named combat ability or independent technique is shown. (Chapters 574, 576)

Relationships

• Li Xuanfeng: Came to Tai’e under Yuan Su’s order and killed the water ape that had threatened the island. Huo’e admired his skill and later invoked his past service when speaking with Li Zhouwei. (Chapters 574–579, 1260)
• Zhong Qian: Huo’e helped keep him inside the formation while the water ape sought him. (Chapters 576–577)
